I have suggested pageants and maybe some moggling but as she rightly pointed out she is a bit short and can't walk in heels. She is however staggeringly beautiful so that bit would be covered.

Any ideas?

has she got nice hands? hand model?

celebmum · 04/02/2012 19:00

Petit model!?

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2012 19:03

her hands are a bit wonkey (like mine) and twiggy. nice nails though.

she's not keen on the moddling TBH. I have trained her too well and claims she is too busy studying and doesn't want to objectify herself.

she does have a job but it isn't going to earn her the 50k it will cost to see her through university.

Tell her to get a job in a bookshop. Double bonus is getting a discount on her uni books!

If she wants to live away from home then she gets a student loan like everyone else. If she doesn't want it to cost 50k then she lives at home and attends her nearest university.

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2012 19:08

she'll get a loan but who wants to start adult life with 30k+ of debt? We are in no position to help her at all. This is 3 years down the line but a massive worry.

Would be nice to not enter the world of work straddled with crippling debts I spose!

What degree is she doing? Can she get sponsorship? My sister was an engineer and got sponsorship for the three years plus earned extra in the holidays.

What about um, the forces?! Do they still do sponsorship?

PippiL · 04/02/2012 19:10

How about a year out temping?

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2012 19:11

she'll have to work - but again. how do you earn that much with full-time studenting~? I'm still paying off my student load 7 years later and i only borrowed a few thousand.

I graduated in 1999 and I've never started paying my loans off! Never earned enough.

Don't let her do english lit/lang, and I wouldn't recommend the salaries in publishing!

I can be an example to her.

HexagonalQueenOfTheSummer · 04/02/2012 19:16

My friend is on a low income and her sons are financing their own way through uni. Their course fees are waived as she is on a low income, they have got the student loans for living expenses and also do part time jobs. One works in B&Q or somewhere similar and the other does bar work.

hardboiledpossum · 04/02/2012 19:16

A degree with an NHS Bursary?

seeker · 04/02/2012 19:17

She'll just have tomget a loan like everyone else. Quelle dommage!

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2012 19:18

we're not low-income enough to waive fees but not high-income enough to be abe to fund her at all.

i am trying to guide her towards teh NHS-ish stuff but no success.

I did Engineering and got sponsorship, which involved working every summer, but kept me from being massively in debt. I also had a job as a waitress near to my parents during a-levels, and so they took me back on at Christmas when I was home. I still have debt left over from uni, but not as much as I would have done otherwise!

Some of my friends did internships, but they are normally only available for 3rd or 4th year students. It's easier to get an internship or sponsorship if you're doing a science subject though.

squeakytoy · 04/02/2012 19:20

what does she want to do? and has she got the ability to be able to do it?

It is all well and good saying everyone should be able to go to uni, but if you are going to get into massive debt and come out of it to either no job, or a crap job, there is no need..

AtYourCervix · 04/02/2012 19:20

i do think she is an incredibly unlucky age.

too old for government trust-fund. too young for uni-fees to be paid.
rules have changed too recently for us to know we needed to save (although we've never been able to do that anyway).

Could she invent something amazing, that we all need, that will revolutionise the way we live?

Like jeggings or cookies.
