To be pissed off with DH?

My DD2 aged 6 is at a party, it started at 3 and it ends at 6.
It is snowing and is -1C out there.
My DH had planned to watch the England game with a friend at a pub, bearing in mind this is his 1st night out for a while.
He has gone out, leaving me to walk in the snow with DD3 aged 3 in the dark for 20 mins to get DD2 and then 20 mins back.
I was hoping he would nip out to pick her up and then get pack to the game.
It is his 1st night out for ages, but I feel he has put this before me and our daughters. I'm so peeded off I don't know if IBU or not?
Over to you, the jury Confused

Cold can be dangerous for small children.

Temperatures can drop quickly after it gets dark. When snow is falling visibility can get really bad, and you can get very wet

Oh for heavens sakes.. OP isnt in siberia... how do you imagine children in much colder parts of the world than the UK survive? Iceland has barely any daylight in the winter months for a start...

Driftwood999 · 04/02/2012 19:30

Call out a search party, OP has not come back!
I would be interested to know if DH actually refused to collect? How well the family diary was planned and agreed?

aquashiv · 04/02/2012 19:32

Cold is actually good for your body it makes it work a bit harder but as long as you wrap up you and your children will be fine. Its exciting for children and I bet they sleep.
If you wanted him to do it you should have asked him.
This juror says U.
Reward everyone with hot chocolate.

elvisaintdead · 04/02/2012 19:33

yabu - it's just snow. If you that concerned then why not just collect DD from the party early, or if another parent was driving ask them to drop her off.

Seriously though, it is snow and 6pm is hardly the middle of the night. I have taken DC out in it to collect from after school activities etc as back then DH would be at work. Warm clothes = no biggie! Kids love the snow. Personally I hate it but I hate wind and rain too however we live in the UK so have to suck it up!

Hi, we are back, warm and safe in front of a roaring fire :) Thank you all for your perspective, it's just what I needed, to see I was being silly.

DD3 loved walking in the snow and we were wrapped up warm, on the way home both girls had a whale of a time which was lovely.

I didn't ask my DH and I didn't let on I was pissed off as he doesn't get out a lot, bless him. I just seethed inwardly Blush
But now I am home I can see I was being selfish. I am glad my DH went out and is having a good time.
He is also bringing me home a take away later, result Grin

I dont think you are being unreasonable. He should have offered.

MarquiseOfMelburnia · 04/02/2012 19:43

Sorry I can't see the problem either, unless it's dark and icy, which from experience could be dangerous with a small child. Treat as an adventure and wrap up warm - your husband is unavailable to do it and I guess that's that.

ragingmull · 04/02/2012 19:43

Glad your DCs enjoyed the walk. Enjoy your takeaway!

squeakytoy · 04/02/2012 19:45

Grin I love a happy ending Grin

AThingInYourLife · 04/02/2012 19:47

I imagine that children in much colder parts of the world (such as the one used to live in) live in a culture where people understand how dangerous cold weather and snow can be and don't think it is "magical".

People in the UK are as idiotic about snow as they are about sun.

They have no idea of the dangers, and think there is something tough about carrying on as normal regardless of the weather.

Taking small children out in falling snow in falling temperatures for 40 minutes of walking is daft.

Driftwood999 · 04/02/2012 21:13

Yes, a happy ending Smile

featherbag · 04/02/2012 21:16

YABU. For reasons I can't be bothered to list, as having only read page 1 of the thread I can see they've all been mentioned already.

SydSaid · 04/02/2012 21:37

Glad the girls enjoyed the walk, and hope your OH comes back having had a great night out :)

I get the feeling the OP was somewhere less dangerous than the pennines or up a mountain....

Most areas of the UK are quite safe during a bit of a snow fall...

I imagine you to be the sort of misery who scowls when they see kids throwing snowballs... Grin

Sparklyblue · 04/02/2012 22:17

Well, DH had a lovely night, we had a lovely takeaway and tomorrow if rain hasn't washed the snow away, we will all build a snowman together and throw in some snow angels too, no doubt Grin
