Two men from the local curtain & blinds shop are in my house. They are fitting child safety attachments to the Roman blinds (we have a lot of them), so that the cords run taut through a pulley, rather than hanging loose for small children to get tangled in.

So far, so good. They come to say they're done. I go to have a quick look round at the blinds. I close the blind in the bedroom - only it won't close, because the plastic connector on the blinds cord won't go through the pulley.

Me: 'the blind doesn't shut'
Him: 'that's because the connector it too big'
Me: 'but we need the bedroom blind to shut'
Him: 'well I haven't got a smaller connector in the van'
Long pause
Him: 'I suppose I could go and get one from back at the shop' (with a heavy sigh, like I am the most unreasonable customer on earth)

well, maybe I am. but I won't be handing the cheque over till the blinds are both child-safe and operable.

I HATE it when any work men people do that sigh when its part and parcel of their job.

I rang our landlords to say we needed a new loo and it was quite literally fucked, the man what can arrived, had a look at the loo, said "it needs replacing" sighed and look at me Hmm like I was being terrible inconvenient, and then trundled off somewhere for the new bowl he already knew he'd need.

You get full marks for having the work done!
What you seem to forget is that it's Friday and a heavy sigh is mandatory for workmen Grin

it's probably because I didn't offer to make him a cup of coffee. i have 3 children under 5 here, the baby is teething and has a bad cold, I am trying to juggle some work things plus get to the hospital and back for a physio appointment. i really hate feeling i have to waitress on people who are here to do a (supposedly) short job.

Cheeky sod. That 'long pause' can be very effective can't it?

He is back, with his diddly little plastic bit. Let's hope it works.
