to think that if I pay £100 for a coat, then the buttons ought to stay on longer than 10 mins?

If it were an unbelievably cheap coat ok. But £100 is not cheap exactly and I can't see why I'm having to sew all the buttons on again. Shoddy finishing.

Did it fit? Did the buttons come off because the coat was tight ?

WorraLiberty · 03/02/2012 10:12

Return it?

hiddenhome · 03/02/2012 10:20

YANBU Sad

wozntme · 03/02/2012 10:34

Out of interest, did you purchase online? I only ask as this has happened to me on more than one occasion. Make a complaint and ask for a replacement, or for a discount to be applied to compensate you and sew the buttons on.

imoanruby · 03/02/2012 10:37

YANBU complain...and keep complaining until they do something that makes you feel better about it!

TurkeyBurgerThing · 03/02/2012 10:37

YANBU. I know the feeling and it's bloody annoying. I generally reinforce all buttons on jackes before wearing them!

startail · 03/02/2012 10:39

YANBU
DD1* sewed all the buttons on her coat again, but it's a year old Sainsbury's one.
( big mummy smile, I hate doing buttons)

VajazzleMyFoof · 03/02/2012 10:40

Ooh this really annoys me. I bought an expensive coat in December, within a week three yes THREE buttons came off. The others are just about hanging on too.

Oh this happened to me, £85 coat for Christmas and on Boxing day the first one fell off, then the second one just before New Year. my mum I came to the conclusion that they were cutting through the cotton, so my mum I used double strength cotton to sew them back on.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/02/2012 10:43

Oh mis-typed... meant to say the buttons were metal ones...

DashingRedhead · 04/02/2012 14:04

The coat fits and it's a Wallis one I bought in Debenhams (not online). I sewed them back but it is just so aggravating!

Depends was it too tight?

LittlePandaBear · 04/02/2012 14:21

Happened with a coat I bought for £180, after about 2 weeks! And no it wasn't too tight! YANBU!

rookiemater · 04/02/2012 15:57

YANBU.
I bought a coat I loved a down Max Mara one from John Lewis, cost an absolute fortune. Within 2 months one of the poppers had broken, phoned them up they said oh yes bring it in we can fix it. When I got there, turns out they didn't have the machine to fix it but I could bring it to Timpsons they thought who might be able to do it, or I could get a full refund. Annoying but I thought I would go for the refund and luckily found a similar max mara coat in the sale for a lot less although not the gorgeous colour of the first one.
It used to be that paying more brought some quality, but not it seems any more.

I always restitch buttons on a new garment. I also run the crotch on trousers too - they are never double stitched these days (3rd world labour and corner cutting)
