Am IBU?

I wouldn't really ever show my DP/Doctor/Madwife a thread from a forum... Have you ever done it? If so, did you feel like a royal numpty?

Wll if I find a thread funny I have once or twice shown it to DH.

Why would you feel like a numpty? Are you embarrassed about using an internet forum?

mrsgboring · 02/02/2012 14:00

I think my GP once suggested that I ask on Mumsnet!

Kayano · 02/02/2012 14:00

I showed the woman in John Lewis my thread from mumsnet because she tried to tell me that they hadn't called me when they had

So I showed her the thread with the date and time where I had conveniently detailed the full conversation Grin

Needless to say she rang someone and bollocked them Grin

JerichoStarQuilt · 02/02/2012 14:01

I do. I show DH funny ones and I've also showed him some of the comments when I've asked about relationship problems. It's good because he knows where what I'm saying is coming from. I don't think I would show anyone else, though!

WorraLiberty · 02/02/2012 14:01

I can't imagine a Doctor or Midwife relishing the thought of sifting through endless smilies and people telling each other they're talking bollocks etc...just to get to the point the patient wants to make Grin

JerichoStarQuilt · 02/02/2012 14:02

Kayano that is brilliant! Grin

floralsanddresses · 02/02/2012 14:04

I show threads to DH all the time. If medical advice was different from the advice here I'd show my GP too so he could explain it to me. No embarrassment.

Kayano · 02/02/2012 14:04

I was pleased Grin

PurplePidjin · 02/02/2012 14:05

If I say DP has said something, it's because he has. He's also been known to pist as me on car stuff (suitably identified of course)

If I went to a professional i'd probably just jot down the main stuff as bullet points tbh

WorraLiberty · 02/02/2012 14:15

I could just imagine my Doctor with a puzzled face Confused

"Errrr ok but what does "AIBU, YANBU, YABU, DD, DS, DH, DP, DW, SIL, MIL, BIL, PIL mean?"

"Oh and one more thing Mrs Liberty, why are they telling you to Leave the bastard"?

Grin
Deflatedballoonbelly · 02/02/2012 14:17

Not the funny threads! I think I am embarrassed about using a forum actually.

I have a forum shaped chip on my shoulder. Should I print this out and show it to my therapist? wibble

I shared a thread with DP once, after I posted about him.

I also told my GP I had asked on here about something and that you had all suggested something was wrong with me more than just a cold.

Nixea · 02/02/2012 14:54

I printed out my (now very old) thread about my PND as it included things that I just couldn't bring myself to talk about in person. It really helped my explain to my GP how I was feeling without having to actually face up and say it. If that makes any sense!!

Matildaandthematches · 02/02/2012 14:57

On a small tangent I did once accidentally collide forum world with professional woman at GP world. For my sins I used to spend large amounts of time on another parenting thread where three letter acronyms were the norm when I was trying to conceive.

When I got pregnant and went to GP to ask him to book me in I merrily told him I'd 'got my BFP'.

Actually wished he could have given me a lethal dose of something rather than insist on me explaining that it stood for 'big fat positive'. Oh the humiliation.

mrspepperpotty · 02/02/2012 15:57

I showed my DH a thread the other day, even though you lot all (unbelievably) said IWBU. He was v chuffed.

Kayano · 02/02/2012 15:59

There was that crazy poster who saved and printed off threads from her SIL and exposed her to her whole family? Remember that? It was crazy Confused

JerichoStarQuilt · 02/02/2012 16:02

Matilda the number of times I've referred to my fanjo, my norks, or my 'Dee-Aitch' ... I don't even notice it until I see the funny look on the other person's face and by then it's too late to say anything, and I just hope they don't realize it means I'm a MNer.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 02/02/2012 16:03

I posted a long ranty thread on step-parenting about something that was upsetting me and showed it to DP because the very helpful replies I got explained things much better than I had been able to. Once DP had read it and seen that other people understood what was wrong because they listened to me without judging and getting defensive we were able to discuss it and work together to sort things out, I'm also always showing him funny threads and hhe also reads over my shoulder quite often Grin

I can't imagine myself showing a doctor though
