To be upset about this reaction?

I joined a diet club after christmas and have just got my half stone award tonight (with a half pound weight loss).

Came home feeling quite pleased, but I've been told how disappointing that weight loss is and how it wasn't very good. :( Yes I know it could have been better but it was a stressful week and I'm happy with any weight loss!

AIBU to be upset by this reaction? I am probably over reacting as he's right it wasn't great but hey ho.

Half a pound is half a pound- it's still a loss. Half a stone since Christmas is fantastic. Is your dp worried about all the men who will be falling at your feet now? Wink

100years · 31/01/2012 20:07

Wow in 2 weeks that's brilliant. YANBU to be a bit disappointed with that reaction. (neither would you be if it had taken you 7 weeks to lose 7lbs)

100years · 31/01/2012 20:10

Oh and another thing Smile if you lost 6 1/2 last week it's very usual to have a lower loss on the second week.

JerichoStarQuilt · 31/01/2012 20:13

What a fuckarse.

His reaction is ignorant because you are losing weight healthily, not just losing fake water weight, which would not be good for your body.

AThingInYourLife · 31/01/2012 20:14

Oh, well half a stone in 2 weeks is great. Well done :)

JinglingAllTheWay · 31/01/2012 20:58

Thanks :)

Well, what a twattish response that is from your DH. Is he jealous?

JinglingAllTheWay · 31/01/2012 23:36

In reponse to those who asked, I would love to sit here and say yes he is a george clooney look alike but I can't!

what a wanker. Hmm well done you. Smile

UserNameNotAvailable · 31/01/2012 23:45

Well just think that if by the end of next month you could be 1st down in total. So what's disappointing about that? Nothing! Be proud, well done.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 01/02/2012 00:39

I've lost 6lb since NY and am proud of that. It's coming off at a sensible rate. You have lost a great amount in the time. Optimum weight loss is 1-2 per week (and that's obviously around what you're averaging) if you want the best chance of keeping it off.

Could DP be worried that you're going to go off him as you start to improve your appearance and your health? Hence he's pissing on your bonfire tonight?

RevoltingPeasant · 01/02/2012 08:13

Jingling having done a lot of dieting (used to compete in a weight-banded sport) I can tell you that it often plunges and plateaus - i.e., you lose 2 lbs one week, then stay the same for a week, then lose more. Dunno why, but it just seems to.

Also, it is absolutely true that you can't safely really lose more than 1.5lbs/ 2lbs per week. If you are losing that, it is probably water weight anyhow. If you think about the consistency of fat, actual fat, you are not going to be burning off more than a kilo of that every week.

Plus, a diet should not a period of hell before you go back to normal. It's a lifestyle change - it's longterm! You have the rest of your life to lose this weight so what's the hurry? Better do it slow and make it last.

Anyhow, well done. No offense, but your DP sounds like a complete arse - tell him I said so!!!!

JinglingAllTheWay · 01/02/2012 17:33

I will Revolting!

I was going to show him this thread but that may p*ss him off somewhat!

Maybe he should try and loose half a stone in a month and see how hard you have to work and how self-disciplined you have to be!
Steady weight loss means it is more likely to stay off, so keep going. You are doing amazingly.

yellowraincoat · 01/02/2012 17:40

What Pom said. Losing weight slowly is much better for you, you're more likely to stay slim and you won't end up with loose skin from losing weight too quickly.

I think you've done really well!

Dump him for a young, six-packed fitty. And if he already is young and with a six pack, find one with a better six pack and a bigger knob

akaemmafrost · 01/02/2012 17:53

I recently lost 10 pounds. Since OCTOBER!!!! So 4 months it took me. He is being a Tit and is obviously not very bright if he doesn't realise what an achievement your weight loss is. Well done.

frumpet · 01/02/2012 18:23

He hasnt been watching biggest loser has he ? where the people have a personal trainer working with them every day ? programmes like that skew peoples expectations of what is possible in a normal situation .

frumpet · 01/02/2012 18:24

Basically ignore, ignore, ignore and then when you are a svelte sex goddess , buy lots and lots of lovely clothes .

muffinino82 · 01/02/2012 19:16

Exactly what Pom said.

Winkly, are you trying to feed my Skarsgard obsession? Hmm OP Actually, even if he does look like that you lucky bitch, it does not give him the right to slag you off. I'm sure the lovely Alexander would applaud you and offer even more hot sex as a reward, as a way to burn more calories, ovs Wink

Sidge · 01/02/2012 19:20

Tell him to fuck off or you'll eat him.

TheScarlettPimpernel · 01/02/2012 19:20

What a cock.

Well done.

Thanks
crashdoll · 01/02/2012 19:23

You are amazing. WELL DONE!

Tell him to fuck off. Grin

P.S. Is he overweight by any chance? Might be jealousy. Apologies if I'm a hundred miles off the mark.

MuffinTheMilf · 01/02/2012 19:25

Athinginyourlife - 7lb in 4 weeks is absolutely fine - especially if you want the weight to stay off. I had a meeting at work with some dietitians who said that weight loss of over 1pm a week is not recommended. Surely everyone knows that fast weight loss is not sustainable!
OP - explain that to your 'd'H!

MuffinTheMilf · 01/02/2012 19:26

1lb not pm - thanks auto correct!

KatieScarlett2833 · 01/02/2012 19:29

Is he your father?

I hope you replied "not nearly as disappointed as I am with you for that remark you sanctimonious twat "
