to not double-lock the front door?

DH always double-locks it when he's here but it's just me and the DCs tonight.

Have not double-locked it as I'm sure fire is more of a risk than burglars, and fiddling around with the key trying to unlock the door and get me + DCs out of the house in a fire, would not be a good thing.

We bolt rather than lock (on the basis that it's quicker in an emergency to draw back a bolt than find a key). When DH isn't here I always take my mobile up to bed with me as advised by the fireman who came to do a home safety check, as most home phones won't work if the electricity goes off (as it does in a case of fire). Somehow I think DH will magically protect us from fire / other electrical emergency so I don't do it when he's here Hmm.

I know Sad she was asleep in bed and they just worked around her. I don't want to think what would have happened if she'd woken up...

When I am home we put the chain on the door. When I go out we double lock.

I often didn't bother to double lock the door until we were burgled several years ago. They managed to slip the yale lock during the day when I was out. Since the police told me how easy it was to do we double lock.

I wouldn't double lock at night as I too worry about fire so we have a bolt on the very top of the door and a chain too.
