to feel niggled at MIL comment

Comment: "Yes, you've had so much on at work lately" (starts sympathetically, then glances at porch on way out), followed by "you don't get time to tidy your porch do you?"

My morbidly obese, size 32+ MIL when I mentioned my plans to get baby weight shifted (and non-baby weight too) "Yeah, I don't blame you for wanting to lose it".

She also said DS(2yo) reminds her of some black sheep relative with severe behavioural and emotional issues (don't want to post his name).

I am probably too passive agressive or whatever it is called .... But when my bloody awful mil makes those diggy bitchy comments i now pretend that she has not even spoken. Ie i don't react at all. Sometimes she will repeat her bitchy aside as she thinks I haven't heard it. To which I just ignore it again.

Bloody mils. Is there a milsnet where they are all ranting about us?!

Ha Ha sounds like my mum! She comes into my house and says have you been burgled again? I have a 5 month old coming out of the sleep regression, when can I tidy?! And she says oh that top looks so much better with baby sick over it, again when DS was a week old. She actually puts her finger through dust.

I said last time it's not untidy it's being used! It's 1 pm and he's playing with his toys!

She says these digs with a smile so that when I snap a her eventually, she says oh shush get a sense of humour! Grrrr.

..... My dil simply wn't speak to me at all. I try to be a good mil. Yes i speak my mind and harp on about her being overweight and neurotic, but I am just trying to be a mother figure to her as she doesn't have one. whereas my other dil is like a daughter to me and we have a Sycophant of the Week competitions every christmas. Bliss!
