to be upset about getting rid of my pushchair

I know I am really but could do with some gentle cheek slapping.

Our friends are having a baby soon and DH told them they could have our pushchair. He asked if that was OK and I said yes. They are good friends and I a really pleased for them to have it.

Trouble is, the time has now come to part with it. I'm still using it. DS2 is 3 in a few weeks and, technically, he should work to nursery but some mornings its easier to put him in the pushchair.

I also have a buggy which I can use so it's not really a hardship (although not as comfortable and not as easy to push).

But actually, more than that, he's my last baby and giving up the pushchair is emotionally a lot harder than I thought it would be and it's making me cry a little bit.

I need more time!!!!!!!!!!

Just say you still need it to your friend. I know how you feel, I still have ds's buggy in the attic - he is 10!!!!! I just couldn't bear to part with it Sad

YANBU to be a bit upset. It's the end of a phase in your life and one which you have enjoyed.

I'm gathering all our baby things together atm as we have a sale coming up. It is making me a bit sad, but at the same time I should make some money out of it an more importantly gain some SPACE!

Allow yourself a few tears and then try to think about what is to come rather than looking back.

Carry a 3 year old? You must be kidding, I don't enjoy visits to the osteopath!

I have glutes of steel and my thighs can crack walnuts Wink

YANBU. I wouldn't have got rid of my pushchair if I still needed it. My DD was out of her buggy by 2, don't think she ever went in it again but my DS was still in it at 4 and even at 5 would accept the occasional ride Grin.

We used the buggy til ds was 4, I didn't drive and it was useful to hang shopping on. Usually ds walked and held onto the buggy.

Shock Haven't even thought about where I'm going to hang the bags!

Took ours to the Women's Refuge last week and felt decidedly wobbly loading it into the car for the last time. However the logical side of me knows that DS is 6, it hasn't been used since he broke his leg 3 years ago and it will help somebody else out.
However I can't part with the play gym, DC's rocking chair-thingy or their cot mobile yet, if at all, so YANBU.

I see the pram tutters are out Hmm. Whether you need a pram/pushchair or not is entirely dependant on your lifestyle/circumstances. I had a mum at the school gate tell me that ds (not yet 2) was getting a bit big for his pushchair and should be walking by now. She has a boy about 6 months older who walks most of the time. I smiled and said that I still find it useful. What I wanted to say though was that we live a 45 minute walk from the school that ds has to do there and back 4 journeys a day - so 3 hrs just on the school runs (and he walks a good proportion of it) whereas she lives 2 minutes up the road from the school (which she usually drives). We also regularly walk a couple of hours each way into the local town.

Anyway now I've got that off my chest - YANBU to be feeling upset at giving your pushchair away op. It is bringing it home that the baby days are over with your kids. And also where the hell are yo going to hang your shopping! Grin

SecretMince You're totally right, I have a double buggy, a single buggy and a Mei Tai sling and I use them all! What suits some won't suit others. Some people with a 13 month gap use a single and a sling, others with a 2.5 yr gap use a double. Everybody just has to do what suits them.

2012blues I'm in total denial that I will ever have to leave the baby phase and give up things like my pushchair. I know it sounds daft, but can you spend some 'quality time' with your buggy - give it a really good clean, wash its covers etc so you have sort of had time to mentally say goodbye to that stage of motherhood and give it away more easily?
