Ds is in year 1 and although I chat with the school mum's and dad's in the playground and are all very nice they are not really people who I have much in common with. I haven't met anyone I can see myself being friend's with which I feel a bit down about, playdates are usually done without the parent, did 1 with the mum but was yawnnn boring! AIBU to not make more of an effort?

Maybe I'm just old, too cynical and too tired these days!

Just because your DCs go to the same school does not mean you have to be friends with their parents. You might become friends but it should not be something you do as 'an effort'.

Is DS your youngest? I find I have made friends with Mum's in my eldest (year 3) class but not so much with my youngest. I already had people to stand with so wasn't so bothered about making new friends iykwim.

If you're not bothered don't make an effort. If it makes you sad, get chatting more. I enjoy meet ups in the park with a group of Mum's in the summer every Monday night after school in the summer. That's always fun.

Of course you don't have to make any effort.

The beauty of being a grown up is you can choose who you have as friends.
