To be annoyed that I cannot leave negative feedback for a non payer on EBAY?

Im bloody annoyed! Ive contacted them repeatedly, since they 'bought it now', for £280! and havent had an answer since the day after the sale. I waited a week, opened a non payer case with ebay, waited another 5 days and have now relisted. I dont see why I cant have my say now! Will this persons account be marked in some way, because of this, or will they get away scot free?

No idea, but that is really awful and I think you should be allowed to give them negative feedback. Is there anything to stop them bidding again?

Tryharder · 26/01/2012 01:29

I agree. It is irritating. I wouldn't mind if they at least answered emails and said that they no longer wanted the item. Rude buggers. The answer is to set up an ebay account with a false name/address/email and then bid outrageous amounts on any item they have for sale. Then refuse to pay.

I haven't done this yet

peggyblackett · 26/01/2012 01:37

I feel your pain tryharder. I have had several non payers recently - its never happened to me before (but in the good old days I could have left them negative feedback).

The incident that pained me the most was Paypal notifying me several days after they had paid for the item that the seller's bank had informed PP that in fact the funds were non-existent. I got my money from PP's seller insurance eventually, but it took a while. Grrr!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 26/01/2012 01:42

AFAIK there is nothing to stop them buying anything else. Im bloody livid!

Ive just checked their profile. there is nothing there about this at all. They can carry on and do this again, and nobody will be the wiser! Sad

They will receive a non-paying bidder strike, you'll get your fees back. If they do this on a regular basis they'll lose their accounts. Feedback isn't really that important except to buyers when deciding which sellers to buy from. Don't forget to add them to your blocked bidder list.

CarpeNoctem · 26/01/2012 02:29

Is it me, or is this becoming more and more common? I started selling on eBay in 2003 and everyone seemed much nicer and more polite back then. Never had a problem with non-payers until a couple of years ago :(

hophophippidtyhop · 26/01/2012 06:32

I had this recently for 5 dvds bought by the same person. I did the unpaid item etc, but they are still buying and not paying on other peoples items! I left feedback saying they were a non payer and stay away - i figured although it comes up as a positive, if anyone bothers to read feedback they'll see it.

diddl · 26/01/2012 07:36

Well, at least you´re not out of pocket.

I have paid for something that I bought in November.

Still no sign of it.

Opened a complaint thing-nothing achieved they are still selling stuff.

It´s all gone on so long that I can´t leave feedback as the whole thing has disappeared from my account??!!

NinkyNonker · 26/01/2012 07:39

Very common now they weighted the feedback towards buyers. Someone jumped in on a high price item I was selling at the last minute then didn't pay, despite being active on eBay doing other stuff...just ignored all messages. Argh!

YellowDinosaur · 26/01/2012 07:45

I had this too and agree its annoying. You can block them from bidding on your items but that's it i'm afraid

Zippylovesgeorge · 26/01/2012 07:48

You can set buy it nows for immediate payment only meaning unless they pay for the item it remains as listed.

BTW positive marks with negative comments will get removed and you get in trouble :(

Bring back sellers being able to leave negs - especially if like in this case they've been throught the NPB process.

Alligatorpie · 26/01/2012 07:53

I have been a Canadian / US eBay buyer since 2006 and never had a problem with anything. Then in november I opened a UK account as I moved to Egypt and wanted to get some maternity clothes sent to my inlaws in England for when I arrived at Xmas.
Unfortunately, I was locked out of my paypal account and can not reactivate it until I go back to Canada ( in the summer) I cannot use my credit cards to pay (pay pal's suggestion to me) as the sellers not have credit card machines in their houses, I could not use dh's barclycard to transfer the money as we had to go into a branch to setup a way of transferring money. My fil could not pay as the account as to be in the same name as the credit card holder. I probably spent 12 hours total communicating repeatedly, with sellers, apologizing and looking for options and made 7 calls to eBay.it was a nightmare and caused me an insane amount of stress.

I continue to receive nasty emails asking when I am going to pay. I should add that one bill was £8 after shipping, but the others were all under £5. I really tried to pay, it is frustrating I could not and it has put me off buying off eBay again.

Thankgodforcaffeine · 26/01/2012 08:25

I had it done to me too.

Just as annoying was the person who bought 2 tables from me (listed because I had no room for them anymore) and then did not collect them for a month!

After several emails and phone calls they finally turned up but only after I threatened to leave the tables out in the snow (it was last winter) because I was sick of tripping over them.

EirikurNoromaour · 26/01/2012 08:26

YANBU! What is an non paying buyer strike? Does it exist? I don't think it does anything. There should be a rating, added by eBay rather than the seller, when a buyer refuses to pay that will show as a negative.

Diddl 3 months is not long enough to write it off, contact eBay and PayPal again.

littlepie · 26/01/2012 08:43

I had this for the first time in ten years too. I put in the listing payment was to be in 5 days unless contact had been made. Sent an invoice few days after auction end, a polite reminder the day payment was due, opened an unpaid dispute. All ignored by the buyer. Sent a final email (politely) asking if they still wanted the item and if so could they pay asap.

In response I had an abusive email, declaring they spent £1000s on ebay and what was my problem...erm...you didn't pay on time or let me know you'd be paying late.

I've been left feeling really upset by this when I've done nothing wrong and they are an arse. I know IF they do pay, when I send the item they'll leave neg feedback and there's nothing I can do. Enough to put you off ebaying

YouOldSlag · 26/01/2012 08:48

YANBU. This has happened to me. Every time eBay send me a feedback survey I write the same thing. It's not fair that buyers and non payers can get away with outrageous behaviour and breaches yet sellers are marked down for the slightest thing.

I just had a buyer who outbid my definite buyer (who had asked me to relist and bid immediately), pushed the price up, then dropped out after winning the bid. When I complained this wasn't the done thing on ebay and that he'd lost me a sale, he had a go at me and got my personal details from ebay!

Could I leave him negative feedback? No. It was open a payment case- no point as he didn't want the item.

It was either that or leave him positive feedback. You must be joking.

cheekyseamonkey · 26/01/2012 08:56

YANBU - I had one where she repeatedly said she'd tried to pay but couldn't. Weird as I sold lots of other things, no problems there. She wasn't ignoring me though, she was getting shirty! She then said I'd sent her the wrong paypal email address (b'llocks!). I did everything I could but she left negative feedback for me!!!! I on the other hand can only leave positive for her! FFS, it was 99p kid's wellies!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 26/01/2012 11:44

Where do I find the blocked bidder list please? Can anyone help?

TreacleSoda · 26/01/2012 13:20

I hate the feedback system too. I got my fingers burnt when I sold something for, would you believe it, 50p and then the buyer didn't pay, and didn't respond to emails. Eventually I emailed saying 'I am going on holidays tomorrow and won't be able to check my emails for over a week, so if you pay in the next week, I won't be able to post the item'. So what happens? She paid whilst I was on holidays, then the day I was due back, she emailed me complaining that I hadn't posted the item, then later that day she left negative feedback (my first in years of using ebay) saying that I took her money and didn't send the item. She admitted having got my email warning her, but still refused to revise her feedback when I tried going through the ebay dispute resolution. It is very annoying.

Tiggles · 26/01/2012 13:34

I once got negative feedback from a lady when I sold her a child's suit. It was advertised as brown pin stripe. When it arrived she said it didn't fit the description as guess what it had a thin blue stripes (errr yep that is the definition of a pin stripe) so then suddenly it was dirty. I said I would take it back (Even refunding the postage I had paid out) but wouldn't pay her return postage (I thought that was fair - she only lived a couple of miles down the road and could have dropped it through the door if she wanted).

So she left negative feedback - as paypal took too long sending the refund to her account Hmm. I noticed she then bought two more brown suits (could see from her other items she was buying stuff up for a wedding) again leaving the vendors neg feedback that suit wasn't as described/dirty Hmm.

However I resold said suit for a larger sum a few days later that more than covered my out of pocket expenses on refunding the previous postage Grin. And buyer left lovely feedback about how exactly as described and definitely not dirty.

DH however was less fortunate - he ordered a big lathe from a chap in scotland, said lathe arrived with all the computer parts not working. Ebay ruled apparently in his favour and said he should return to the seller for a refund. However seller did not have to refund postage either way - that came to a massive £200 Shock. It was cheaper for DH to buy new computer parts and fix the thing.
