to be excited & looking forward for DS1 (PFB) starting school? Am I disillusioned?!

He registered the other day to start in August this year and I got all excited looking at the school and thinking of him in his big boys uniform, doing his homework, making friends, riding his bike to school, learning loads of new things, enjoying himself and becoming more confident and self assured.

He is my PFB- will my dreams and ideals for him be shattered or can school be like this?!

bikes are banned from the grounds in my son's school.

homework can be a nightmare to get done ( well it is in my son's case lol)

Don't expect to hear anything about. My DS never tells me anything about his day in reception.

There are more good things to them going than bad I've found Smile

Let the school get on with it unless it's a huge problem you can't deal with without going in, is my overall advice.

Otherwise, get your feet up and MN all day (if you're able to), six hours passes in the blink of an eye, but then you're wondering how you're going to manage six weeks with them at home in the summer Grin

That's exactly what my DS1's school is like :) He's a summer-born boy, in Reception, and I was desperately worried about him before he started as he was shy, quiet, and the sort of child who would give up rather than persevere with something tricky.

Within a fortnight he was getting himself fully dressed, buttons/tie and all, and has gone from zero literacy/numeracy to being able to recognise all letters & numbers, read short words, recite at length things that they have learned that day/week. He LOVES it, and I am so happy with how much it has brought him out of himself.

Sorry, I'll stop gushing now Blush

mchappypants the kids at DS's school are encouraged to ride to school if they can, they have bike stands and everything for them!

Um, stupid qu but what is reception? I never understand this- is it preschool? My DS is 4.3 and is in his preschool year but will start primary 1 in August (Scotland).

equestrian your son sounds very happy!

zigzag I wish I could get my feet up when he starts school, but have DS2 too plus DC3 arriving in summer!

YANBU. I was the same. I was standing at the school gates proud as punch at DS while the other mums were bawling their eyes out as they realise their PFB isn't a baby anymore. I walked away wondering what all the fuss was about.
