I bought a butler tray/side table yesterday for £125. I picked up their autumn/winter catalogue at the same time. Once at home, I saw that my tray was pictured in it, priced at £99. I called JL this morning and their reply was that it was in their right to change prices at any time they wish to do so and that it was pretty much tough for me.. Fair enough for Ryan Air to jump up prices despite having advertised them but not what I expect from good old JL.... Their catalogue is still current, we are still in Winter. Shouldn't they wait for their new season and catalogue before upping their prices (quite a radical increase too) or AIBU?

OP, I agree with marriedinwhite - try a letter and they may sell send a goodwill voucher.

Whilst the law is on their side, I do think it's a bit naughty and I would feel equally peeved to discover the same. Think some folks on here are being a bit catty tbh!

I would buy a new one and return it using old receipt with the inflated price.

Must say I'm a little bit Shock at John Lewis - I expected them to be a little bit better than this. Customer service seems to be going down the toilet, recently had appalling service from M&S who argued that leather splitting on a pair of shoes that were 3 weeks old was completely normal and definitely not a fault - they gave me a credit note as a "good will gesture" - I felt no good will!

She can't take it back, (or she can, but it won't do any good) because the price she paid is the new price. OP is objecting because the price has gone up even though the old catalogue with the old price is still out there.

Honestly I think YABU. You weren't misled, you bought it at a price you were happy to pay. Prices go up sometimes, that's the way it is.

Just return it, as is your consumer right only if that is the JL policy. Nothing in statute gives you the right to change your mind/take back unless faulty/not as described etc.
