to stay at my parents while we have no gas?

Am moving away friday and as my landlord is using an estate agent he had to get a gas safety certificate. The man comes this afternoon and finds a leak that may or may not of been here the whole time.

Its a small leak and told its just gas not CO2. However the gas has been shut off and we can't get in contact with my land lord.

The best case scenario is its could be fixed by tomorrow eve, the man doesn't know where the leak is and can't do anything to he speaks to my notoriously hard to get a hold of landlord.

If it does go ahead tomorrow, it will be a lot of work possibly, people in and out and all that.

I have my last shift tomorrow as well. So my question is, WIBU to hop on a train to my parents with 10 month old DS to avoid the cold and work, leaving my long suffering DH here and come back friday to sort of the move after having a lovely couple days at my parents, or just deal with a bit of cold and inconvenience ?

Oh and my parents are 3 hours away so not close or easy to get to. Just found out will be a big job without a doubt

I'd go to your parents. With a 10-month-old you really don't need or want to hang around during this.

Be thankful you have a DH to be there to deal with it. (LP myself).

As well as parents nearby. Mine live abroad.

Annpan88 · 23/01/2012 16:05

But not abroad! So not that bad!

I'd go, I think! For the sake of the baby, of course!

I some ways, it may be easier on DH if he only has himself to worry about - he can live off takeaways for a few days, head down the pub/a friends house to warm up a bit perhaps?

Yeah, I'd be on the train!

Your house is possibly not habitable, so you should certainly consider moving, if you're happy going to your parents then just getting the train fare off of your landlord would be reasonable, but I would suspect a hotel for the duration (in addition to not having to pay the rent) is possibly reasonable particularly as your husband needs to stay local.

I would particularly note that all landlords, regardless of what sort of agents they use have to have a gas safety certificate and provide it to you within 28 days of the lease starting, there's no getting around it and the potential fines are large, so if you had not had a certificate before then that would be a very powerful bargaining chip.

Landlord has got in contact and said he's given the go ahead for the work to get don't tommorow. He hasn't said anything about what we're to do in the meantime (cookers gas as well). Take away it is
