It goes straight into fruit bowl. Nobody has died yet (or become ill as far as I'm aware)

AIBU?

I've never washed it either.

dementedma · 22/01/2012 12:52

another non-washer here...all survived so far.

SquidgyBiscuits · 22/01/2012 12:54

Rinsing fruit does no more to wash it than running your hands under water, sitting a bath of just water or rinsing your hair in water does to wash them!

RainboweBrite · 22/01/2012 14:12

I wash it, if 2 seconds under a running tap counts as washing? I never wash bananas though ;-).

Was just thinking that Euphemia. No one that handles any sort of food washes their hands after going to the loo. And obviously it follows that because I don't wash my fruit I don't ever wash my hands ever after doing anything. Hmm

PoultryInMotion · 22/01/2012 14:47

I just get the dog to give it a thorough lick. Saves water then.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2012 14:48

Yes I get the cat to do the same with my plates Poultry. Wink

OriginalJamie · 22/01/2012 14:50

I wash veg that's been in the ground. Threadworm eggs can be picked up from the soil. Ever had threadworms? Not nice

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2012 14:52

I think we were only talking about fruit. I wash veg, but then it gets boiled up generally.

Gumby · 22/01/2012 14:52

Yeh bet all you non washers are the ones spreading threadworms around

OriginalJamie · 22/01/2012 14:53

Oh, yes, I got side-tracked to veg.

Bunbaker · 22/01/2012 14:53

"I always wash it because even a quick rinse means my children are eating less chemical pesticides. I can't see why you wouldn't to be honest. I am in no way a clean freak but washing fruit seems like a very simple basic hygiene measure."

Same here. I wouldn't not wash fruit. I don't understand why not washing fruit is something to be proud of.

kidd · 22/01/2012 14:54

I only used to when could be bothered.
BUT now I do having seen apples etc on the floor of local supermarket and of course they get back on the shelves.

Lueji · 22/01/2012 14:55

You don't know if they have washed their hands or not, that's the point.

Are you all saying you never had D&V? Congrats

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2012 14:55

When I go to the PYO fruit there are always kids there eating the fruit. Confused

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 22/01/2012 14:57

They're washed during processing anyways, ave seen it on come outside.

cottonmouth · 22/01/2012 14:58

JimbosJetSet · 22/01/2012 15:14

So would rinsing fruit under the tap get rid of the D&V bug then? I'm assuming not?

OriginalJamie · 22/01/2012 15:15

I solve this whole conundrum by rarely eating fruit

Gumby · 22/01/2012 15:15

It's not d&v that's the problem
Its threadworms

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2012 15:17

I thought it was decided that soil and veg cause the threadworms. Confused

DoMeDon · 22/01/2012 15:18

Rinsing fruit under the tap achieves nothing. I am agog that anyone thinks cold water can kill bacteria, ward off D&V and eliminate the germs from piss stains. If all this is ture you should call the WHO organistation - it'll save millions Hmm
