just been shouting at the kids. Am at the end of my tether, they go on all the fucking non stop time about fucking Call of Duty, Assassins Creed and the like as well as begging for a fucking FB account just like all their friends at school. I am the fucking big bad mum, they are even crying in the playground about it, their friends come over and ask me why they can't have these things. I know this sounds OTT but it is really making me fucking miserable and I've just screamed at them to SHUT UP before storming out of the bedroom.

I will not FUCKING give in like all the other fucking sheep parents who already have but just to say thanks for taking the easy route here for some peace and quiet but making it fucking harder for all the other (actually think the majority have already moved to the dark side) parents who are trying to keep these inappropriate games/forums from their way too young children. FUCK!!!

I would just make it very clear to them that the more they pester you the less likely they are to be given access to either before they are 18 and then ignore any mention of either of them that is made.

devonshiredumpling · 20/01/2012 21:42

i am in the same mind as you and will not pander to this nonsense of them having violent games .so good on you stick to your guns (pardon the pun)

squeakytoy · 20/01/2012 21:43

depends on how old your kids are..

cheekyseamonkey · 20/01/2012 21:44

YANBU hold tight, stick to your principles.

redlac · 20/01/2012 21:45

I'd threaten them with taking the games consoles away if they mention it again

LordOfTheFlies · 20/01/2012 21:47

My DS is 12 yo and has Assasins Creed , Halo and Skyrim but not Call of Duty.
I don't mind the 'fantasy' stuff but not the war 'games'

My DD is 9.6 yo and has been asking about FB accounts.Lots of her friends have them allegedly.
We had a chat about people using FB who aren't who they say they are (Obviously I don't say Internet Grooming by Paedophiles to my DD)

NO is a complete sentence I tell them Grin

PreviouslyonLost · 20/01/2012 21:47

Have a YANBU, a beta-blocker, and a large red sozzledchops. I applaud you (from a Moshi Monsters CLUB (ie. PAY MONEY for trashy, of the moment, Internet s(H)ite refusenik) Smile

hellhasnofury · 20/01/2012 21:47

I think kids are good at stringing their parents lines. I know my two used to tell me all of their friends were allowed to watch South Park. It was a line. Some of their mates were allowed to but plenty weren't.

2wwmadness · 20/01/2012 21:47

How old are they?

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 20/01/2012 21:48

I agree with you entirely.
I'm glad I'm not the only one .

AgentZigzag · 20/01/2012 21:50

Blimey! What do you say to the other children coming up trying to pressure you to give in to your DCs? Shock

Fuck off and mind your own springs to mind.

It's up to you what you let your DC have.

Not for your DC to decide (unless they're older?) and definately not random children in the playground.

Do you think your DC asked them to try it on?

If you do, it would worry me that my children thought they had a snowballs chance in hell to get round what I'd said like that.

sozzledchops · 20/01/2012 21:51

ages are 9 and younger and these kids do have these things, even the parents have told me.

I did threaten to take away their consoles. The kids are obsessed with them, they honestly don't even realise they are going on non stop and driving me round the bend.

Give yourself a 'good parenting' award and calm the fuck down?

LordOfTheFlies · 20/01/2012 21:55

I asked my DS mates mums/grans if they had CoD. (According to my DS they all had it)

Out of 5 boys only 1 had played it.And that was his dad's.
Nice try DS but only 1/10.

Sirzy · 20/01/2012 21:56

Under 9? I would go with your idea of taking the consoles away for a while then!

sozzledchops · 20/01/2012 21:56

i am calming down (a bit) - a nice glass of wine might help. am not perfect by a long chalk but this shite is just really wearing and affecting my relationship with my kids as I'm starting to lose it after a while rather than staying calm.

I have this from my 9 year old too. Cant believe his school friends are allowed these games. Also saw on one 9 year old's FB (DS wanted to show me a guy from school on fb to prove other 9 year olds are on so I looked) and there on the top of his friends (over 250 friends btw!) list was a 5 year old I know in P1 at the school I was at a few months ago!!! OMG!! Shock His mother had been writing on his open-to-all wall, swearing etc as if it was coming from the wee boy, absolutely horrendous. My ds now knows that he will not get what he wants for his birthday if he asks again.

My 9 y-o nephews were boasting to me that they'd seen a 15 film. I told them I was not impressed by that at all. They are mad keen on Wii and DS, but it's all still Sonic and Pokemon with them, I haven't heard them talk longingly about the more violent games yet.

I can remember being very excited about finally watching a 15 film when I was about 13. It was Good Morning Vietnam and I was far from impressed...clearly not a film for teenage girls whether they are 13 or 15!
