Most articles I see linked to on here seem to be from the Daily mail.

Many come with the statement "sorry it's the DM."

Now while it's entirely possible to happen upon an article if someone emails it to you or you see it on twitter or the like, generally, you don't just happen upon the daily mail, or any other publication for that matter, unless you go looking for it.

And generally, if one was that anti the Daily Mail and what it stands for, then they would actively avoid it, not give it more hits by republishing its articles..

Have no issue if people want to read the Daily Mail, that's their perogative. But why not just come out and admit it rather than pretending to apologise for the fact?

I buy the DM and always have - I can make up my own mind about the articles written thank you very much - if anyone has a problem with the DM then don't read it - simple - go out and buy The Sun or The Times whichever you prefer.

OnlyANinja · 20/01/2012 18:13

That's pretty much the point of this thread - so many people apologise when posting a DM link or say they hate it so why are there so many links to it? If you hate it, don't read it, or link to it.

TroublesomeEx · 20/01/2012 18:18

I don't read the DM. I have flicked through it whilst waiting at the chippy though...

My blood pressure can do without it tbh!

ButWhyIsTheGinGone · 20/01/2012 18:22

I read the online version every day - mostly just to irritate myself. I mean, take today's front page - go on, have a look.
All down the right hand side are the "Femail" stories - stories the fuckwit Mail employees have decided will be of interest to my pretty little head. For example, a story about David Walliams wife modelling for Calvin Klain. THRILLING. A story about a pregnant "celebrity" showing of her baby bump. WOW!!! A story about a singer on holiday somewhere hot....wearing a bikini!

Then.... tucked away in small print, just below a hard-hitting piece about Paul Daniels cutting off his own finger.....you see a piece about a woman killed by her ex husband after complaining to police he was harassing her and they ignored her.

Scroll further down to see a story about some dozy bint who crashed her car...etc etc. And don't forget the regular stories about women having weekly abortions, and so on....

I have never defined myself as a Feminist, but how can right-thinking women be happy about the way the Mail portrays their entire gender?

JestersHat · 20/01/2012 18:27

I read the Daily Mail online so I can post comments on the articles, disagreeing with what many of their readers think :o

southeastastra · 20/01/2012 18:28

we seem to have this topic weekly now, so what people read the daily mail, shock horror

it's getting a bit boring now

foglike · 20/01/2012 18:30

I read the daily mail and the telegraph.

Occasionally I read the sun and the metro.

Anyone can find links that any given newspaper has a twisted agenda.

But the left wing handwringers hate the DM with a passion.

JestersHat · 20/01/2012 18:31

Handwringers, or just people who care about things enough to spend time considering them? :)

foglike · 20/01/2012 18:32

Same thing jestershat I was being ambiguous :)

foglike · 20/01/2012 18:34

That's a shocking spelling sorry I really mean that....PROOF READ IDIOT (To me) Blush

AlpinePony · 20/01/2012 18:36

Yanbu. Soooo many people read it, isn't it one of the most read online media outlets in the world?

I particularly love the 6am frothing about an article... Almost as though the DM website is one of the first checked of the day. ;)

dementedma · 20/01/2012 19:54

hmm, we must get a different version here in Scotland as don't recognise any of those stories from today. I used to love reading Keith Waterhouse's articles and defy anyone to say he wasn't a great writer. Also like John McLeod's writing.
if it upsets you, don't read it - readers of any paper have to use their judgement and not take it as gospel.
guess you could always read the Mirror, Sun, Record or any of those worthy publications.

Boomerwang · 20/01/2012 20:00

I always used to buy 'The Sun' and I found I was ridiculed more for that than for reading my parents' 'Daily mail'

I read it because it was easy on the eye and didn't require much thought... does that mean people know all about the kind of person I am?

mothmagnet · 20/01/2012 20:03

The DM is shit, let's make that clear. It has a definite and well known agenda against immigrants, benefits and women and just about everything tbh.

However, their site is very readable and entertaining.

My advice is read that and then read mailwatch and you'll feel better.

Ian Hislop in Levenson this week wanted all NOW readers to be brought to testify just why on earth they had bought the paper, what they thought they'd get out if it and do they feel cheated? One day I hope DM readers will be asked the same question.

I get the Guardian on a Saturday and the DM and Observer on a Sunday delivered
:o
Not sure if I fall into the people who care about things enough to spend time considering them? category or not jesters Wink

KittyFane · 20/01/2012 20:14

Ditto Adverse. Actually, the Guardian magazine is pretty awful in about a zillion ways too.

PreviouslyonLost · 20/01/2012 21:32

dementedma ' hmm, we must get a different version here in Scotland as don't recognise any of those stories from today'

Indeed, they ARE VERY different versions. Once perused MIL's copy before travelling to BIL's home 300 miles south, whole different agenda headlines. May have mentioned this before no-one took any notice of course, but it's all lefty Vs righty twaddle pick your 20p news paper indeed Grin

troisgarcons · 20/01/2012 21:34

put in any key words for any news story - the Dm comes to the top of the pile.

It pays to do so.

Hence the Dm being the second most widely read online publication after the NY times.

It has an easy layout, navicable and more importantly it is free.

Asinine · 20/01/2012 21:36

I read it because it's free online. But I take it with a shed load of salt. Like Mien Kampf sp?

unreasonableannie · 20/01/2012 21:57

to be honest give me the DM over the guardian et al every time

sozzledchops · 20/01/2012 22:03

I read the DM as it's easy to read on-line and I like to see what the enemy is up to, keep them close and all that. I get all wound up though so maybe am a bit of a masochist, spank me now!

Irishchic · 20/01/2012 22:33

So there are a lot of Daily Mail readers on Mumsnet...

So what OP?

AmIthatbad · 21/01/2012 00:25

I read it every day, but take perverse pleasure in getting annoyed at the "Flaunting baby bump" "showing off bikini body" " xxxxx sparks fury/outrage", etc type stories.

Then I enjoy red arrowing all the twattish comments from people that have read the headline, not bothered with the actual story and posted sometimes unbelievable comments.

The Mail's treatment of females in the public eye beggars belief. God help you if you're an actress and decide to go to the shops without your gladrags on.

And then if they decide to promote someone (Her Royal Hotness Angry Pippa Middleton, Christine Bleakley, for example) then they ram them down the readers' throats day after day.

Oh, and I love the "sadface" photos they do Grin
