Meeting friend in pub - who's the unreasonable one?

Obviously I think that I am being perfectly reasonable!

It's a bit hypothetical now, because her DH has been delayed in London, so we're not going out. But...

I had arranged to meet my friend for a drink tonight. Bear in mind, we're in Glasgow, it's freezing and has been sleeting on and off all day. We were going to go to All Bar One - it's on a corner and has floor-to-ceiling windows all round (this is relevant).

We were meeting at 8, but she wanted to meet me outside and got a bit arsey when I said that there was no way I was standing outside in the cold in full view of everyone in the pub. She thinks it's odd to go into a pub yourself and order a drink. I think it's odd to wait outside. Over to you.

She was being very silly. Do you think she might have agreed if you had promised to sit in the window so she would see you were there, and therefore know there was no need to wait outside?

I think that's why I thought she was unreasonable - not so much the waiting outside, but waiting outside in this hideous weather! (Although we're not going out now so it's a moot point).

It annoys me when fully grown women won't go into a bar or somewhere like that alone and order a drink. It reminds me of when my best friend and I used to go to pubs when we were 14 practically clinging to each other because we were so nervous about not being served.

does she have a phobia of walking through doors alone?

I think your suggestion is very fair and means you both get your way some of the time. Not sure why you would wait outside; no matter the weather.

AnnoyingOrange · 19/01/2012 19:28

I always go in and order the drinks/food when I meet one of my friends for lunch because she has a later lunch hour than I do

Bonkers to stand outside when there's a perfectly good inside.

However, if she won't go in alone, I'd suggest go straight in when u get to the pub, if she is waiting she can walk in with u, if she isn't, then she txt or phone you as soon as she gets there, and you come out to meet her, or tell her where u sitting, if she dares to pass through the doorway unaccompanied.

Get there first, go inside and tell her to text you when she gets there and you will go out front to her and walk in with her?
