I answered an advert for a large tin chest a few months ago, which I was duly given, and have been using it for storage ever since, however things are very tight since Christmas and I've seen and identical one on eBay with 5 hours left to run and the bidding is up to nearly £100. What would you do?

I am a voluntyeer with FREEGLE (ilovefreegle.org) which split away from USA based Freeycle and used to be a volunteer with Freecycle

Their general guidelines re selling items are that you must declare if you wish to sell on stuff especially if you are a trader and it is a business
You may be breaking the law if you deliberately mislead someone as to your intentions or I know some Freecyle groups may forward sellers detials to Taxman or take action.

Noting that some groups also say No Strings attached so it is up to you what you do with stuff

I also see a few members here say they have seem stuff on ebay they have given away for free and I would suggest they contact the group owner if they feel the person mislead them.
I am afraid their is a small minority of folks who claim they want stuff for their disabled granny but in fact sell on Ebay

This case is different in that you are considering selling something that you have used and IMO it is up to you what you do with stuff you have used and did not obtain with intention to sell.

Although if you get a good price on ebay you may consider donating a few quid to your ;local Freecycle or Freegle Group or to your favorite charity

If you feel really awkward you could contact the person who gave it to you & offer to Ebay it & split the profit, or gift half to charity, their choice. Odds are they won't give a toss! I wouldn't.
