In wanting to know why there are police manning my sons school?

Since monday two police officers are manning the entrance to my sons primary school. Morning and afternoon. They look as though they are keeping a 'look out' or perhaps Im just being daft.

I wonder if its anything to be concerned about.

I just called the office and this was the conversation:

Me- "Hi my son goes to your school Ive noticed police officers outside it everyday. I just wanted to check its nothing to be concerned about."

Office person - "Eeeer. silence errrrm. Can I ask who you are?."

I tell her who I am.

"erm well. You dont have to worry."

"But you wont say why? Now I am concerned."

Office person - "Its just. Erm. I'll get the head teacher to call you."

Then starts babbling that actually, they are there to make sure the children cross the road properly. Or maybe they just like to 'be around' at school time.

AIBU to think theres more to it?

Even if there was there is a myriad of reasons why they wouldn't tell you.

SarahStratton · 19/01/2012 15:57

There's obviously a good reason, but one you don't need to know about. If there's been someone undesirable hanging around schools a letter goes out, so it won't be that.

OtterNonsense · 19/01/2012 15:57

Same thing happened at our primary when one of the classy mothers had threatened one of the other mothers with violence. I think there was an affair involved.

So long as you haven't been sleeping with someone else's partner, you should be fine.

WhiteTrash · 19/01/2012 15:59

No definitely not be shagging anyones man.

Would you all just notice and not worry then? Im an over worrier. Its damn annoying.

I wouldn't be worried but I would be curious.

crazynanna · 19/01/2012 16:01

I think one of the schools around here a few years ago had a little Police station inside the school Shock

OrmIrian · 19/01/2012 16:06

PCSOs? If so they are there to monitor traffic issues and parking I'll bet. We get them around our school for a few days every couple of months - because parents appear to be utterly incapable of walking a few yards so have to park on the chevrons or the double yellow lines outside the school. Or blocking residents into their own houses.

craftynclothy · 19/01/2012 16:09

I'd be nosey curious, especially as they're at the entrance. We get the occasional officer near dd's school but it's always traffic related (parents parking too close to junctions)

Vicky2011 · 19/01/2012 16:09

I confess I would be nosey but not worried. Most likely a custody dispute has got nasty or threats of some kind.

Abirdinthehand · 19/01/2012 16:15

The secondary school where we used to live was regularly shut down and swarmed by police with sniffer dogs. Do the ones at the primary have dogs? If not, nothing to worry about Grin

mustdash · 19/01/2012 16:18

DD1 got caught up recently in a tangle at the school security door with a parent who was in the middle of an access case.

It may be something like that, and obviously they can't tell you who it concerns.

SixtyFootDoll · 19/01/2012 16:19

My guess it's a custody or domestic violence issue? Maybe an estranged parent trying to take child?
If there was a general danger to everyone then the school would let parents know.

HeadfirstForHalos · 19/01/2012 16:19

I would be nosy, not worried. Years ago when my friend was going through a nasty break with her ex-h, he wasn't allowed unsupervised access, and was getting nasty and threatening to take the dc from school. The police came for a while to keep an eye out for him.

HeadfirstForHalos · 19/01/2012 16:19

*at hometime.

Maybe they have children at the school and are picking them up?
