'Thanks very much' would have been a better response?

If your child is invited to attend the pantomime with their school mates. Ticket paid for. Children to be driven there and supervised by staff who volunteer to do so. Returning to school at 9pm.

You say 'thanks' don't you?

Or even 'sorry can't make it'.

Not 'I won't be available to pick up X at 9pm. Please will a member of staff wait with her until 9.45 when I will be able to get there'.

Hmm

Yes, it would have been but then, some people have the manners of a slug ! YANBU.

CamperWidow · 19/01/2012 14:32

How fecking rude!!!

pjmama · 19/01/2012 14:32

Cheeky bugger!

mojitomania · 19/01/2012 14:33

It takes all sorts huh. Cheeky mare.

ChaosTrulyReigns · 19/01/2012 14:34

Oh yes it would.

TheSkiingGardener · 19/01/2012 14:34

Answer needs to be in kind then

"No"

OrmIrian · 19/01/2012 14:36

LOL at chaos.

gardener - that was the response that DH wrote in the pupil's record book. Apparently the parents rang the head this morning to complain about his 'attitude'. He called me at lunchtime. He is a bit cross. Hence the thread.

wahwahwah · 19/01/2012 14:36

My response would be 'I shall ask my secretary to make the arrangements'

Flisspaps · 19/01/2012 14:38

I do hope the Head told the parents where to get off?

DELHI · 19/01/2012 14:43

"Perhaps you could make arrangements for little Johnny to be collected by someone else as there will be no staff available at that time." and let them sort themselves out - cheeky or what?

Rebekmah · 19/01/2012 14:44

At my DS's school the answer would be - "then he doesn't go". Can't believe the parents would seriously expect this, its outside normal school hours FFS!

heyannie · 19/01/2012 14:45

Where would the child have been if not at panto? Surely whoever was supposed to be looking after it can pick them up? I don't think your husband was at all unreasonable, blunt questions deserve blunt answers (and they didn't even bother to put a question!). It's hard to smile and keep being polite through gritted teeth when people are morons, even if at work.

wineandroses · 19/01/2012 14:50

Some people are so entitled; and to then complain about your husband's attitude - extraordinary! I hope the head commented on the unreasonableness of the request, and that staff have lives too etc... though probably not eh?

ENormaSnob · 19/01/2012 14:59

yanbu

The reply needs to be NO.

SixtyFootDoll · 19/01/2012 15:01

Gobsmacked.

OrmIrian · 19/01/2012 15:01

Head was fine about it. She just felt obliged to pass on the comment.

Pagwatch · 19/01/2012 15:02

Goodness. Very rude.

OrmIrian · 19/01/2012 16:38

I suspect that DH will end up waiting with her anyway. I guarantee by now he will be feeling sorry for her....bang goes our entire Friday evening

quirrelquarrel · 19/01/2012 17:08

Rude, yes- but people can be when they're very stressed or in a fearful hurry, doesn't mean they're a rude person.

hattymattie · 19/01/2012 18:20

I can't quite believe people can be so insensitive. Let us know what happens.

MissAnnersley · 19/01/2012 18:33

I agree this is highly unreasonable behaviour. However no matter how unreasonable a parent is they have the right to believe their communications with a school will remain private.

diabolo · 19/01/2012 18:40

Miss it is remaining private - no real names are being used are they?

And it is rude! Some people have absolutely no manners whatsoever, sadly.

MissAnnersley · 19/01/2012 18:49

diablo, I agree it is very rude. However it should not have been posted about.

Perhaps this post will help anyone who might otherwise be inclined to be similarly rude to desist?
