To think he should tackle his snoring

A few months before I got pregnant my oh came to my gran's 90th - got v drunk and that night snored like I have never heard anyone snore - he was heard down the corridor but so drunk/passed out that I couldn't wake him. The next day he had a sore nose and throat and since then his snoring had been just awful.

I had pregnancy insomnia but am now thinking his snoring made this worse. Ds was born and is not one for sttn and as I bf I have been up most nights and often have trouble getting back to sleep - again oh's snoring is a big factor here.

We have had a spell of co-sleeping as after I went back to worm ds was I'll a lot and also teething - so oh slept on the sofa a bit ( so he could get full nighrs sleep )- anyway oh is now back in our bed and I am being kept awake again.

the thing is he has a snoring mouthwash which has remained unopened for months and he refused to try another treatment as it was expensive - aibu to think he should be at least giving these a go? His snoring is really bad and v annoying! And it is keeping me awake when ds is already getting me up in the night - and although I am now redundant that I still need my sleep!

No not really. PigWhisperer. It was great at first but as time went by, the snoring came back.

Although my DH isn't a butter ball by any means he is drawn to chocolate and cake....a lot. When he puts on more weight than is good for him the snoring gets worse.

He lost two stones last year and it was brilliant.

Sadly he has very little will power. Tsk. I am back in the spare room.

Agree about the weight too, ny DH lost a lot of weight last year, and his snoring stopped very soon after he started losing weight. Not drinking as much helped too.

ReebleBauble · 23/01/2012 20:42

Ive just started having this problem too. Dp and I have always been loud snorers and its not bothered either of us. But recently DP has gotten infinitely worse. It started at Christmas and only when he was on his back. A quick elbow to the ribs and a demand that he roll over usually sufficed. Now its constant and I havent slept for 4 days. He slept on the sofa last night but DD chose that night to begin growing some molars. Lovely.

Not only do I lie awake listening to his snorting, I'm also waiting for DD (who is a very heavy sleeper) to wake because she can hear him even though our rooms are seperated by a double width staircase and 2 closed doors!

I hate the idea of us sleeping apart, both of us are very tactile people and cuddle all night. But I dont know what else I can do. Hes agreed to see a GP next week to make sure its not more fecking allergies or sleep issues. I suspect they'll blame his weight but hes lost 2 stone and its only gotten worse!

Op, I totally feel for you.

Reeble - giant teddybear and you won't notice the difference.

Weight theory doen't wash with me - dp's a beanpole yet still creates disturbing nasal vibrations.

lol @ pigwhisperer name!

cockneydad · 23/01/2012 22:31

alicia - that sounds like what the medics call 'excessive daytime sleepiness' - I used to fall asleep at my desk at work and in meetings before I had my diagnosis of sleep apnoea - turns out I hadn't had a proper nights deep sleep for at least 2 years - was no wonder !

applecrumbleandcream · 23/01/2012 22:39

My DH starts snoring when either

a) he's put on a bit of weight, or
b) he's got a cold

Could it be either of these things?

Saying that, my dd had her tonsils out in August, before this her sleep apnoea was really bad and the snoring could blow out windows....she's only 4!!

maddening · 23/01/2012 22:40

nagging to see gp to start in earnest forthwith then - will have to go with him to describe what happens. Funnily enough he has put on weight - we both have as I put on 4 stone when pg and having a hard time getting rid - especially being so tired but pcos does not help - he has a real sweet tooth and diet starts next week (which never comes) attitude

thanks everyone - you may have saved his life!

I'll just throw this out there but I think I read somewhere once that men with a collar size greater than 17" are more pre-disposed to snoring.

LineRunner · 23/01/2012 22:46

Stressymoo, I know two men who have surgery for snoring and they didn't find the recovery particularly painful at all.

Sleep apnoea and the 'masks,' are important, as per threads above.

Also as mentioned above, men who snore very loudly sometimes could lose a bit of weight and/or look at their drinking.

missmartha · 24/01/2012 08:45

Yes, I have heard of thin men who snore, but this has more to do with flabby soft palettes, misshapen airways in the nose etc.

With my old man, weight is certainly a factor. He doesn't drink (alcohol), so we can rule that one out.

maddening · 24/01/2012 09:41

mine has stopped drinking in the last year due to horrendous hangovers - as we were ttcing he cut down and still got v bad hangovers from just one drink so he decided to cut drinking altogether as it just wasn't worth it.

I personally think the night he drank a lot and snored extremely loudly caused some damage and the issue he has now as it really wasn't as bad before....

Hi all, I Am newly married and we are trying for a baby. However, hubbies snoring means we already have separate bedrooms. How worried should I be? We have been married one month. X

ChippingInLovesEasterEggs · 12/02/2012 16:02

Maddening - given your other thread can we assume he's sorted the snoring out Grin

maddening · 16/02/2012 18:07

Haha NO lol, but back to cosleeping due to major teething (canines) I keep mentioning the dr but dp and nagging is v much the long game ....
