to worry about the 'pear drops' smell appearing in my house?

It's here again today - second time in a week. In the hallway, living room and one of the upstairs rooms.

It's not nail varnish remover because I don't use it, but it's that smell.

Is it a strange, toxic gas? First sign of zombie attacks, perhaps?

northcountrygirl · 17/01/2012 21:34

Do you have a relative that's "passed over" who also liked pear drops? Grin

knittynoodle · 17/01/2012 21:37

After diabetes, I thought banana's. Followed the smell in our kitchen to one that had fallen behind the microwave. It was so off, it was part water.

drummerswife · 17/01/2012 21:45

Poppers does not smell like pear drops. Not that I would know.

cough

redridingwolf · 17/01/2012 21:51

Ha, northcountrygirl, yes, Aunty Ethel was very fond of a pear drop and I refused to pass her the tin when she was -on her deathbed

An exorcist is clearly called for.

Kladd* - your husband is probably right, I think they have been painting next door. Less interesting than the ghost theory, though...

Ah there you go - glad I've solved the riddle anditsclearlynotthemoreobviousanswerofdecoratingnextdoor--

perplexedpirate · 17/01/2012 22:05

The gas people have sawn into our drive (technical) recently and that smells a bit pear droppy.
I would think it is next door.

MINGULAY · 15/11/2012 12:02

I HAVE JUST MOVED HERE A FEW WEEKS AGO. I SOMETIMES SMELL A STRONG SMELL OF PEAR DROPS. I LIVE ON MY OWN & IT'S NOT ME !
I SMELL IT IN DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE HOUSE, SOMETIMES THE BEDROOM, SOMETIMES THE LOUNGE (NOT NEAR THE OTHER).
THERE IS NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER, BUT IT IS VERY STRONG WHEN IT COMES. THEN I DON'T SMELL IT FOR DAYS, THEN IT'S IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PART OF THE HOUSE.
I RECKON IT'S SUPERNATURAL !!!!!!!
NO OTHER EXPLANATION.
MY DOGS ALSO BARK AT NOTHING, EG STARING AT A DOOR, BARKING.
I CAN'T SEE ANYTHING WHEN THEY DO THIS.

VirginiaDare · 15/11/2012 12:05

Is that why you are shouting at a zombie thread?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 15/11/2012 12:06

Why has no one suggested... Pear drops?!
Melting on a windowsill maybe?
Grin

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 15/11/2012 12:06

Oh ffs!

JenaiMarrHePlaysGuitar · 15/11/2012 12:22

Hahaha.

It's not zombies despite this being a zombie thread. Zombies smell rank (with the possible exception of the one MNer known to be a member of the Undead).

Ghosts? Nah. They don't eat pear drops.

WitchesTit · 15/11/2012 12:25

Have you been sticking pear drops up your nose?

Fairygodfather · 02/10/2015 15:28

Redridingwolf, have you resolved this? Same thing in house I'm moving into. No obvious anything (damp, cockroaches, nail polish remover). Would value your feedback.

mumeeee · 02/10/2015 15:38

I would think the OP has resolved this by now as this thread is over 3 years old.
