hazie - police officers

we are sending lots of our officers down to cover the olympics (mutual aid) so as a result there is alot of backfill required.

means no one can take leave = massive pain in the arse as i have a teenager in year 10 at school - not a chance we can take her out of school.

YABU. It's the Olympics, not the second coming of Christ.

SubordinateClaws · 17/01/2012 01:58

I mean YANBU.

Dartfordmummy - I think it's reasonable to take leave during the Olympics unless you've been selected for the team. Then I think you're in for a row Wink

ObviouslyOblivious · 17/01/2012 02:55

Yep we have no leave for 100 days between June I think and September. Oh, and no working from home either! Shame the childminder takes two weeks in august, that's going to be fun.

TapirBackRider · 17/01/2012 04:14

YANBU - I'm in Scotland; my dh is banned from taking any leave between the start of May and the start of September.

Charliebigpotatoes · 17/01/2012 05:41

No leave between may and September here, only one guaranteed day off a week and staggered leave after September, oh also 8 hour shift pattern changed to 12 hours! Can't bloody wait Angry

Charliebigpotatoes · 17/01/2012 05:41

Oh YANBU!

Haziedoll is right, employers who are so silly and restrictive with holiday are simply going to encourage much higher sick leave rates. To say nothing of what an arse ache its going to be squashing everyone's annual leave in before the end of the year. I also wonder about the legality of insisting on a doctor's note after less than five days sick- never done employment law myself and would love to know.

How are these businesses that are telling staff no leave between April / May and September going to cope with everyone then needing to take their leave in the remaining time of whatever the holiday year is? That clearly hasn't been thought through and in some cases will have a greater negative impact on the business than a properly planned and managed process across the whole year.

This used to be a big bugbear of mine when working in a big corporate (now self-employed thankfully). Former boss used to default "no" to all leave requests at the first time of asking. With a team of 6 including her, that used to make for interesting issues when we found ourselves in the last 3 months of the holiday year with 30 weeks leave to take between us.
