to think that I'm not being "mean" "horrible" or "ruining their fun, and 2 children do not need 492 sweets?!

eldest 2 Charges won the "guess how many sweets in the jar" competition at a fair last week...the prize was the jar!

It is full of lollipops, celebrations, chew bars hard boiled sweets and sherbert

I've told them they can have 40 sweets each (its still a lot I know but they're very good at making them last!)

But I've had a ton of comments in the school playground...one parent actually called me "evil" Hmm

I'm happy to give them the full 492 sweets if MN says IABU....ok that's a lie

What are you planning on doing with the rest of them?

I would probably stick them in a cupboard but ration them out over the next few months.

Sausagesarenottheonlyfruit · 16/01/2012 08:50

Yanbu!

maybenow · 16/01/2012 08:52

i'd ration them out - maybe 10 each per week... that would last half a year!

what else are you going to do with them?

StealthPolarBear · 16/01/2012 08:52

Well what will you do with the rest? Surely they'll keep?

keepingupwiththejoneses · 16/01/2012 08:54

YADNBU they certainly don't need that many sweets. If the sweets where jelly beans or something like that 40 is still plenty. The mums in the playground are stupid. I agree with Sirzy about what to do with the rest.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 16/01/2012 09:00

They're sharing them out between friends, brownies and cubs!

They would last for ages in the cupboard but the amount of sweets is insane....we would be looking at a good 5 months of eeking them out...way more then they get now!

Oh well that's fine, as long as you're not bombing them

LaurieFairyCake · 16/01/2012 09:03

Dd still has 7 selection boxes - she's still only allowed to eat 1 choc bar per day.

They will last till Easter whereupon she will get 18 eggs that last until the end of the summer holidays.

StealthPolarBear · 16/01/2012 09:03

Binning, stupid phone

boohoobabywho · 16/01/2012 09:09

i agree that you should not feed all of these sweets to your kids, but i read somewhere that eating 100 bars of chocolate in one day is better for your overall health than eating 1 bar of chocolate a day for 100 days.

I think it has something to do with how your body metobolises food, and is the reason why you have to eat 5 different fruit and veg rather than 500 grams of the same one.

this is also the reason why you can eat a litre of icecream every day on your holiday and still loose weight

(grabs tin-hat and waits for everyone to proclaim this is rubbish)

squeakytoy · 16/01/2012 09:11

How do the kids feel about being told they have to give THEIR prize away?

Sirzy · 16/01/2012 09:14

If the children are happy with that plan then it makes a lot of sense.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 16/01/2012 16:49

Kids aren't that fussed...they'd rather have some rather then nothing!

Evil?

evil

I know someone who needs to get a bloody grip. Evil indeed.

They will have lots of sweets and the pleasure of sharing. That's far better than selfishly scoffing the lot.

Mi4 · 16/01/2012 16:55

Charges? What are the parents of your charges opinions?

Hardgoing · 16/01/2012 17:00

If the children are fine with it, and happy to share out with other people, then it's fine. I wouldn't sieze the jar, just explain that that's too many sweets to eat in the next couple of months and perhaps we can share them out a bit. I would let them have first pick and have a say in where the rest go.

belgo · 16/01/2012 17:04

Keep the celebrations; give the rest away.

prettyfly1 · 16/01/2012 17:10

To be fair I dont think you are being unreasonable but I have no idea why you would let said charges enter a competition for a prize you wouldnt let them have - that does seem a bit mean.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 16/01/2012 17:12

Mi4 parents wanted to throw the whole thing away then said it was up to me
