To be fed up on my birthday?

It's my birthday and I am miserable :(

Dp has been working so i have just seen my folks and that's it. He left me two cards this morning, one from him, one from dd which would've been nice but they are lame cards. The one from dd is really grown up and to "mum" not "mummy" - she is only one. The one from him was just a generic card you might send to a friend, not your fiancée. We agreed on no presents as we have a wedding to save for but I thought he might get me a little token thing or something to open from dd.

I just don't feel very special and think he has made no effort.

Would you be upset or do you think I'm being a spoilt brat?

Oh, and there are no plans to do anything at a later date.

I would mention too that you should probably ensure that this little 'communication error' is at some point explained and remedied BEFORE you get married Wink

whamfan · 15/01/2012 20:57

OP you could have written about my birthday a few days ago. Sucks having a January Birthday. After the climax of Christmas, everyone is skint/pissed off/ partied out!

lollipoppet Respectable - Mel & Kim, or Rick Astley 'Never gonna give you up' ...YOUR choice Birthday Girl Smile

diddl Respect to you, but I'd STILL be expecting some chilled Rose Billecart Salmon Champagne at least, agree re: Birthday card, fundamental imo Smile

duchesse · 15/01/2012 21:10

It's my birthday too lollipop. Happy Birthday to you! Birthdays- meh now. I used to get butterflies just thinking about the fact it was my birthday, probably until about 10 years ago. I turned 44 today and I think I'd rather just have a lie-in than presents or cards.

lollipoppet · 15/01/2012 21:11

Ooh, rick astley! Gotta be!!

I know, whamfan - another excellent suggestion for party tunes! - January is the worst month for a birthday! Did you get any obviously unwanted Xmas gifts too?

Happy Birthday Lollipoppet and duchesse*!!
YANBU...husbands/fiances/partners/boyfriends should have the sense to know that saying 'No presents' doesn't necessarily mean that!! Make sure he knows for next time though...you don't want to be on here next birthday!
Liking the 80s/early 90s music going on!!

PreviouslyonLost · 15/01/2012 21:26

Happy Birthday lollipppet, duchesse, and whamfan...dancefloor getting a bit crowded now.

As a (Birthday) aside lollipoppet...when in your early hours champagne and greggs sausage rolls haze, you decide to YouTube Ghastly Astley for 'old times's sake' (when legwarmers were H.O.T)...please notice one of the backing dancers is a bit crap...she was a last minute replacement, and didn't know the 'routine'...my Birthday pressie to you, mwah xXx Grin

lollipoppet · 15/01/2012 22:58

PreviouslyonLost · 15/01/2012 23:22

FairhairedandFrustrated Happy Birthday to you! lollipoppet is cramming the Greggs sausage rolls into Rick over in the corner, Duchesse is necking the Champagne, and whamfan is a bit emotional now after learning that she'll never be George's Careless Whisper...

duchesse · 15/01/2012 23:28

That Rick's let himshelf go a bit hashn't he?

PreviouslyonLost · 15/01/2012 23:34

Not putting lollipoppet off one iota though Duchesse is it? He's big in producing these days, or so lollipoppet heard, or did she just hear 'he's big'? Grin

Great party, thanks all you Birthday gals, was truly memorable...same time, same place next year?

xXx

Happy birthday, mine was yesterday. January birthdays are pretty crap.

tigerlillyd02 · 15/01/2012 23:42

My birthday was Saturday and I don't think I'll ever have a good birthday again! My brother died last year on my birthday, aged 28. Totally unexpected, he had a cold (which we'd all had at the same time) but turned into pneumonia and then developed blood clots etc from it. So last year it wasn't even celebrated at all, which is understandable. I spent the entire day in the hospital. I did receive some gifts which I couldn't bring myself to open until several months later.

But, everyone around me, clearly was extremely miserable on Saturday this year. I had one card from my mum with £20 in, which is lovely. But still, just the general feeling around me was horrible. And I can't see it ever changing.

PreviouslyonLost · 15/01/2012 23:45

AKissIsNotAContract Happy Birthday (+1 day) January Birthdays were pretty crap 'til now...still room on the dancefloor for one last tune, your choice for the end of party slowy snog-a-thon Smile D.J was going for Jennifer Rush 'The Power Of Love'...

PreviouslyonLost · 15/01/2012 23:48

tigerlillyd02 Sad Sorry for your loss. xXx

AKissIsNotAContract · 16/01/2012 00:06

Tiger: that's so sad, sorry for your loss.

carrotsandcelery · 16/01/2012 12:45

tiger I am so sorry to hear your story. I hope that over time you remember happy times with him and don't focus on the sadness on your birthday. xx

lollipoppet · 16/01/2012 19:16

So sorry tiger x
