To think this lady must have made a mistake or else is seriously out of touch and in for a shock?

I've just seen an advert from a lady looking for a sole charge nanny/au pair.

The role is 50hrs per week for one school aged child and 2 pre-schoolers. (So def a nanny and not really au pair?) offering £600-£1000 pcm.

This works out £2.79-£4.65ph. Shock

Can this be for real?

Is it live in though?
Would be a bit more acceptable if you didn't have rent/food to buy.

SecretMinceRinser · 14/01/2012 21:26

I don't know how much nanny's get paid but they may get accommodation/food/use of car etc on top of that so they have no bills to pay.

NickNacks · 14/01/2012 21:27

No not live in. The phrase 'daily nanny' is used and I think it would specify if live in, wouldn't it?

There's a huge difference between a nanny and an au pair

Even for a live in salary it's very low

feelingbullied · 14/01/2012 21:29

does it matter to you? She will realise pretty quickly that its not an acceptable rate for qualified carers when she gets no replies.

JustHecate · 14/01/2012 21:30

She can't do that, surely? what about minimum wage laws? Don't they apply?

NickNacks · 14/01/2012 21:31

Well it only matters to me in the respect that I'm looking into nannying and seeing what sort of jobs are in my area. But you're right, I won't apply for this one.

Insane! When I was live-in I was on £300 a week net at least, with £20 for food on top!

AKMD · 14/01/2012 23:11

YANBU and au pairs aren't supposed to work more than 20-25 hours a week.

RuleBritannia · 15/01/2012 07:33

Perhaps the '50' was a typo?

lubeybooby · 15/01/2012 07:45

Au pairs are paid very little but have free food, rent, and bills so only need a bit of spending money - however they are not supposed to work very many hours, they have to be allowed enough time to study. I've had friends who have paid theirs between £60 and £80 pw but they only did a few hours 'wraparound' care on weekdays so probably up to 16 hours a week weekdays only.

You couldn't pay a nanny that little, especially 'live out'

lesley33 · 15/01/2012 11:07

The salary she is offering is ilegally low. YANBU
