to get cross about 'Come Outside' advocating flushing dog poo down the toilet

Dogs carry the parasite Toxocariasis that can send people blind and cause all sorts of other flu like symptoms. Chemical sewage treatment and even bleach cannot 'kill' this parasite. By showing the woman flushing it down the toilet and then describing how all that sewage will get reused as manure for our vegetables and recycled back into drinking water makes me feel sick. We are told not to put dog and cat poo in the compost for health reasons. I do not want my vegetables grown in Fido's potentially blinding excrement. Only regular worming can destroy the Toxocariasis and not every dog owner is that responsible. I can't believe they'd encourage flushing dog poo with ours to be recycled...

You'd best tell the people who sell the Doggy Bog because they advocate washing it straight down into the sewers...even with bags!

I used watch this with my DN when she was tiny and she is 22 now. Our favourite episode was the one where Auntie M lost her ring in the quarry.

VivaLeBeaver · 14/01/2012 16:57

Isn't Aunty Mabel dead?

I used to work in a sewage treatment works and afaik dog poo is bad for the sewage treatment works. The friendly bateria that break the poo down can't cope with dog poo or something. Our water board certainly used to tell people not to do it. I bag it and bin it.

TheBigJessie · 14/01/2012 17:02

Maryz

They do Aunty Mabel in Ireland? Wink

Luxury!

Shelly32 · 14/01/2012 17:03

Thanks VivaLeBeaver I thought when I'd been reading about it that it had said the sewage chemicals/bacteria couldn't break dog poo down or destroy the Toxicariasis.

Unfortunately...i think Aunty Mabel is dead Sad

i saw does Jane know Auntie Mabel is a goner?

Sad
TheBigJessie · 14/01/2012 17:10

My favourite episode is the teapot one, because it's so absurd, when the potter says he'll only make her the teapot if she gets him clay. Talk about a I'm-going-to-name-a-silly-price-so-you'll-go-away deal!

LadyBeagleEyes · 14/01/2012 17:10

Auntie Mabel is dead Shock Sad?

Shelly32 · 14/01/2012 17:18

Oooh...I may be wrong. A poster on here said she was...I can't find any suggestion of it on the internet though...not that that clarifies anything..

whomovedmychocolate · 14/01/2012 17:18

I'm sorry but I'm quite pleased there will be an end to Aunty Mabel and her stupid ratty dog.

OP what do you suggest: canine arse corks? (could be risky)

Now I think I remember that toxicariasis cannot survive long term without a host. So in the seven days or so it goes through the sewarage process it would shuffle off the mortal coil no? Confused

Shelly32 · 14/01/2012 17:19

It can survive for up to 7 years apparently...Arse corks sound splendid!!

VeryLittleGravitas · 14/01/2012 17:37

It's Pippin who's dead...not Auntie Mabel.
Both Pippins are in doggy heaven now.

TuftyFinch · 14/01/2012 17:41
Grin I like the library one.

Dog poo is illegal in Sweden. You have to burn it in a dog poo incinerator. Heavy fine if you don't. Aunty Mabel should do one there.

I don't think she's dead.

MardyBra · 14/01/2012 17:44

Auntie Mabel is still alive. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynda_Baron

She was in Dr Who last year.

LadyBeagleEyes · 14/01/2012 17:47

Whomoved
Pippin a stupid ratty dog?
I am beyond shocked at that statement Shock.
He was a star I tell you, a star.

HarrietSchulenberg · 14/01/2012 17:58

I'm quite certain Aunty Mabel is a responsible dog owner who wormed both Pippins regularly. Any dog poo that went down her toilet would have been worm-free.

SuePurblybilt · 14/01/2012 17:59

Oh that Swedish model is brilliant. Isn't it also true that they trap the emissions from the poo furnace and use them to heat tomato farms or something?

SarahStratton · 14/01/2012 18:03

I saw a most excellent programme about tomatoes once.

Massive, massive greenhouses, and they had the CO2 piped in from a big factory next door to make them grow quicker.

TheBigJessie · 14/01/2012 18:04

I just got Sue's name. [/tangent]

SuePurblybilt · 14/01/2012 18:06

I have a helpful hoverererer ^^^

SarahStratton · 14/01/2012 18:09

I'm still devastated that you don't have a purple fanjo. :(

TuftyFinch · 14/01/2012 18:11

Yes Sue but wasn't it marrows? Or swedes?
