To not let TV programme film my surgery?

I'm a regular who has name changed.

I am having my PIP breast implants replaced and a TV programme would like to interview me and film part of the procedure, for free. I'm not sure how It feel about this, there is no way I want my face shown and they have said they don't usually pay people so should I just say no?

Yes, just say no.

Gigondas · 12/01/2012 16:43

So what is in it for you? The only reason I can think to do it If helped towards cost. If not I would refuse

DoesNotGiveAFig · 12/01/2012 16:43

Refuse. I would.

Madsometimes · 12/01/2012 16:44

Yes, say no if you do not feel comfortable about this. You should not be pressurised into having a medical procedure filmed. I'm sure the production company can find another woman who is winning to take part.

AustralianBarny · 12/01/2012 16:44

Yes, I was hoping they would pay for it or help towards the cost but they have said no. I did wonder whether the clinic may reduce their fee as it is advertising for them?

Then There is no advantage to you and lots of drawbacks - i wouldn't fancy being filmed for any kind of medical procedure .

Anniegetyourgun · 12/01/2012 16:57

Why would it be unreasonable not to let yourself be filmed undergoing surgery? Your body is not public property. Not sure I'd let 'em even if paid. (Maybe if they paid a WHOLE LOT. But might regret it afterwards even then.)

Figgyrolls · 12/01/2012 16:58

It would be a definite no for me, in a similar vein to being on OBEM. I think the programme could edit it that you are after something that you are not, or question your reasons for the implant to start off with? I tend to think of these as bad motivation rather than good. You aren't getting anything and they are getting everything it would seem. Incidentally even if they paid I wouldn't do it. Because of the above reasons.

baubleybobbityhat · 12/01/2012 17:00

Why on earth do you have to ask Mumsnet?

What kind of freak would want this sort of surgery shown on tv anyway? Only the seriously stupid, surely.

FetchezLaVache · 12/01/2012 17:01

But at least OBEM pay you! There's nothing in it for you and you are clearly uncomfortable with the idea. YANBU.

Abcinthia · 12/01/2012 17:05

Just say no if you don't want to do it. There is nothing unreasonable or wrong about refusing to let a TV programme film you, especially when you say you don't want your face shown and there are no benefits to it.

Wittsend13 · 12/01/2012 17:24

FetchezLaVache OBEM doesn't pay anything either. You get given a tape of your birth..

Figgyrolls · 12/01/2012 18:16

I so would not want a tape of my birth Grin not something that rocks my boat really Smile

JustHecate · 12/01/2012 18:19

If you don't like the idea - say no.

The crews are no doubt hoping people will say yes because they want to get on the telly.

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 12/01/2012 18:20

What a silly question to ask in AIBU.

What were you expecting people to say, ' Of course yabu, they have every right to watch you having surgery on your breasts for free'?

If you don't want to do it, don't do it. Simple. I'm not sure why you need MN to tell you that.

Gigondas · 12/01/2012 18:20

When do you sit down and think "I know ,I will watch the birth DVD" Confused

OddBoots · 12/01/2012 18:22

Of course you're not, just tell them to bog off. Leave the filming for someone who wants their five minutes of shame fame.

OddBoots · 12/01/2012 18:23

Doh, I am rubbish at strikethough, sorry.

Jux · 12/01/2012 18:41

Unless you're absolutely desperate for that 15 minutes of fame which Andy Warhol promised us all so long ago, then say no.

Jux · 12/01/2012 18:43

UserNameNotAvailable · 12/01/2012 18:44

I would say no.
When I was last pregnant my consultant done the routine appointment then asked if i would be willing to let a photographer take some pictures of me having my scan (a better scan btw) as part of a booklet about the hospital (not sure if it would have been just for professionals or public) but i said no, df was saying go on we'll see lo again and as much as I would have loved to see the baby I didn't want my stretched marked belly and ugly mug plastered all over a magazine.
