To be really hacked off that I can't watch tv in peace?

I hardly ever get to watch what I want, but occasionally, there is something, and tonight it was OBEM. The minute it started, ds15 started wittering. Then ds12 who also wants to watch, tells him to Shut up. This starts a fight. Then DP walks in and starts demanding my attention. I just want 1 measly hour to watch my programme. It's not the first time, as soon as they all become disconnected from the hive mind, tv, x box, laptop, iPod they get bored and that's that! I told them all to piss off in the end!

Get a TV in your room?

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 11/01/2012 23:48

But it's cold up there and we have no reception. For 1 hour a week, why can't every one else buggerin well be quiet?!

Pull the duvet over you and make sure the TV's digital? Grin

Actually forget that, they'll probably keep knocking on the door like my DS's do when I'm in the bath!

But why shouldn't I be allowed to watch my tv when I want to? >>whines>>

Haven't you anything better to do with your time to yourself?

DoesNotGiveAFig · 12/01/2012 10:20

YANBU to tell em to piss off. This WAS your own time that they ruined.

DoesNotGiveAFig · 12/01/2012 10:21

Shock @ rule - did you mean to be so rude??!!

HeadfirstForHalos · 12/01/2012 10:26

YANBU at all. They are old enough to show you a little respet and watch in peace.

HeadfirstForHalos · 12/01/2012 10:27

*respect and let you watch in peace.

toddlerama · 12/01/2012 10:29

Infuriating! Mine are 3 and 4 and I have no qualms about booting them out of the TV room/wherever I'm listening to the radio if they can't be quiet. It's so bloody rare that there is something I actually want to hear. They fling themselves off whining, but they're over it in under a minute. Just send them to their rooms. Inconsiderate beasts.

comedycentral · 12/01/2012 10:30

Have you told them how you feel? Have you told them that it's rude, it sounds like they need some hobbies. Can't they find a youth club to hang out at of an evening?

CogitoErgoSometimes · 12/01/2012 10:38

YANBU.... In our house, however, the stock response is 'you know how annoyed you get if I talk when Dr Who is on?'......

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 12/01/2012 11:19

RuleBritannia, thanks for your input, but please, jog on!

saggy exact same thing happened in my house last night arghhhh, I shouted SSHHHH very loudly and they all slunk off into the kitchen to talk instead.

Asinine · 12/01/2012 11:44

I insist on quiet when a programme is on, and would not disturb my dcs watching a film. It's just basic manners.

Subtitles are good to catch stuff that's hard to hear, like dramatic whispered confessions...

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 12/01/2012 11:49

I know how you feel, there isn't much I like on tv but if ever I want to watch something the girls are eitehr really loud so I can't hear or they keep calling me to do something every 5 minutes. If DH is home he just wants to hog the tv the whole time too! I never get a chance to watch anything.

My solutionwas to buy a tv recorder and record anything I want to watch onto dvd and watch once the children are in bed on the portable dvd player. I do get a bit annoyed I can't watch my own tv but at least now I get to see things in peace.
