to not want to bother to work

I have what I want. I spend all day with my dc and work from home at night.
But I can't be arsed tonight. I have so far-
Logged on to MN and wasted two hours
Made a cup of tea
Re organised my files
Tried to make the cat sit on my lap
Picked off a sticky label from the bottom of a cup
I can't be bothered, DH is out so not keeping me 'on task' and I have a deadline for tomorrow.
Can someone please motivate me or altenatively give me some more time wasting activities.
I have googled my name already.

Do what you need to do...how are you supposed to make your deadline if you dont. GET WORKING!!! Then you can come on here and say YAY I MET MY DEADLINE!!! Motivation is hard. Hope its not too hard. x

Figgyrolls · 11/01/2012 21:30

And don't be watching OBEM either Grin deadline woman, deadline!

Auntiestablishment · 11/01/2012 21:33

How long will it take?
Go to bed, set alarm for barely-enough-time-to-get-it-done in the middle of the night/early morning.
Nothing like a deadline to make you focus. Grin

monkeyhandbag · 11/01/2012 21:35

It is on I can hear it but not see it. Since my first post I have put a work dress and shoes on to get into the role. I expect my DH will come home and think it is an invitation and then there will be more distraction.
I am flicking between two screens now so progress is being made!

Aunties is right.

Often I just can't work at night. Too tired.
But work better after sleeping for a while.

Or stay awake all evening wasting my time, then feel the urge to work at 2am and work till morning.

pushmepullyou · 11/01/2012 21:38

Are you me?

monkeyhandbag · 11/01/2012 21:40

I am usually very disciplined. I work 7.30 until 2.00 every night. Well normally. Tonight I can't be arsed at all, any excuse I can't get focused. I cant dare let myself sleep!

now I'm musing over how sexy your work gear must be for dh to see it as an invitation Envy

fedupofnamechanging · 11/01/2012 21:43

Time spent on MN is never wasted Wink

To be serious, think how you will feel tomorrow, if you have failed to meet your deadline. Turn the telly off, and the internet and tell yourself that you will work solidly for an hour. Then do it. Imagine how happy you will feel in an hours time when you've made a dent in the work.

monkeyhandbag · 11/01/2012 21:46

I am dual working MN and real work now. DH just gets confused and excited if I wear something other than pyjamas or leggings around the house. Bless him. It reminds him of bygone days.

Shall I do Angry faces at you? Angry Angry

RoyalWelsh · 11/01/2012 21:53

I also can't be bothered to work, except mine is tomorrow and I have to leave the house for it... Do you think MNHQ could write us both a note?

guffaw · 11/01/2012 22:00

arf Grin

I'm going to try it, I'm sure there's some form of dress in my pile of comfy clothes stylish and well ordered wardrobe

You have to recreate the work vibe more authentically. You need to get someone pretending to be your boss to forward lots of irrelevant emails with documents attached (several pages long) that you feel you can't delete but put in a file called "to read by the end of the week" (which has almost used up your entire pc memory).

You could also walk up and down to and from another room forgetting things and being interrupted by people asking questions about stuff you a) don't know the answer to or b) know that they can find out easily without asking you.

You might also want to go to make a coffee, fill and boil the kettle, go out of the kitchen for a minute to answer the phone, and return to an empty kettle.

I am sure there are many more ways to feel you are at work so that might help.

butterfliesandladybirds · 12/01/2012 23:02

OOps a bit late there. Hope you met your deadline!

xxcozxx · 13/01/2012 01:24

Hmm

By the title I thought you meant you can't be arsed to get a job. I wanted to make you my bestest friend for thinking as I do.

Although I HAVE worked full time since the age of 18, I used to muse on whether I could get away with never working again and just living off the UK's generous handouts, but I never went for it cuz my family consider you a scumbag if you don't work and I didn't fancy a big row.

I've moved to another country and I'm jobless and not looking cuz nobody would let me puff and pant my way through a shift in case my waters broke but I wish I was back in the UK cuz at least I'd be paid for not working.

I didn't think it thru, did I?
