We were doing fine with hard gums and purée thank you very much mother nature you old bag. Please give me my baby back and leave us the fuck alone.

And what the hell did people do in ye olden times? Were they just riven with permanent toothache?

My Granddad's 21st birthday present?

To have his teeth removed. As I get older and my teeth become ever more Shane Magowan-esque, I think it might not have been so bad.

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 11/01/2012 18:28

I feel your pain. Just coming out of 4 months of hell in which ds grew 12 teeth, 4 of which were the first molars and the bastard things pratically have to cut 4 times each as they are so bloddy big. 4 weeks they took.
Evil fecking useful bits of shite.
Also teething has stolen my baby's gummy smile. He is now a toddler

staylucky · 11/01/2012 19:21

YANBU! Also of the looking forward to false teeth gang.

Now I'm sure am not mistaken but remember reading somewhere that it was v common in times past for working class ladies to have all their teeth removed on marriage to save themselves the pain and husbands the burden of treatment. Pregnancy (especially back when they had mahoosive families) just destroyed them anyway.

coraltoes · 11/01/2012 19:25

Well dd has gone to bed dosed up on nurofen and kisses. I can see three budging their way through slowly.

I dread molars I really do... Wake up in cold sweat at night over it!

Hear hear! Or is it here here? Confused

Anyway... Yup! DD2 was the perfect baby until 6 months, teething hit and she's been a PITA a whinging, non sleeping nightmare ever since Sad. I've been dosing her up on Nelson's teetha powder all day and will give her calpol before bed.

Dentures are not an alternative to teeth, they are an alternative to no teeth. Seriously if you have your own teeth you so not want dentures.

It is worth remembering (and I'll probably get 25 people saying it runs in their family blah blah) that almost all dental disease (decay & gum disease) is preventable. Fact.

The blow torch would have been to seal off tue root canal filling material called "gutta percha" which is made from a form of rubber.

Long term dentures = no bony support for lips & cheeks, unable to wear lower denture, clicking teeth whilst you talk, put em in a glass overnight, recurrent candidal infections of the mouth and lips.

What's not to like?

sunshinesue · 11/01/2012 20:45

whenever my dad has a problem tooth he has it taken out as "dentists can't make any money out of teeth that aren't there". So far only back teeth affected........

Grumpystiltskin · 11/01/2012 21:01

Dentists don't make much money out of people who look after their teeth either.

yellowraincoat · 11/01/2012 21:05

Grumpy, it pains me, but I have to agree with you. My teeth were perfect til I was about 14, because I only drank milk. Then I discovered juice and my teeth have suffered. Developed a fear of the dentist after one left a cottonwool ball in my tooth and even with subsequent trips to other dentists, it wasn't removed til 5 years later (horrible infections during that time, of course). So now instead of going as soon as I have a problem, I let them drag on and on.

BeaOnSea · 11/01/2012 21:09

YANBU

Teeth are OUT
Beaks are IN

Grumpystiltskin · 11/01/2012 21:11

Beaks! Bahahaaaha. Brilliant

ItsOkItsJustMyBreath · 12/01/2012 08:47

Grumpy I have to disagree with you, I have always looked after my teeth and had a brace in my teens which I looked after very well. Now I am the proud owner of many fillings and have a HUGE hole in my bank account whereas my brother, who never brushed his teeth or looked after them (ate sweets etc), has a perfect smile and NO fillings. Where is the justice in that??????

Bring on the dentures Grin
