My lovely cat died in October. We decided not to adopt a new one until we've had our baby (which should be in a few weeks) so new cat wouldn't ahve to be unsettled twice, first by being adopted and then not long after, by a new baby.

Anyway, we're still in contact with the shelter where we got our last pussy cat from and yesterday, they got in a little stray who looks so much like our old cat. I've fallen a bit in love, I must admitt. The cat shelter lady posted pics and asked for name suggestions and MY IDEA got picked!

Is it a sign that she is the cat for us???? The stray will need to stay in the shelter for a while anyway to get her health stabilised and get her socialised etc. So I'm hoping she'd be ready for adoption just when we are.

This is meant to be a light-hearted post btw, I just like the AIBU crowd!

YANBU. It's a sign. Adopt the cat.

Kladdkaka · 09/01/2012 11:30

Awwwww, yes she's yours. :)

kreechergotstuckupthechimney · 09/01/2012 11:30

YANBU or at least not anymore U than those people with more money than sense who try to clone their dead animals.
Go for it as long as it won't be too much having a baby cat and a baby person.

OnlyANinja · 09/01/2012 11:31

YANBU at all to hope that you get the cat :)

no such thing as a sign but I'm sure you know that

Clever cat rescue woman Wink

TwinkleToes64 · 09/01/2012 11:32

Was your name suggestion the name of your old cat??

MrsHuxtable · 09/01/2012 11:34

She's not a baby cat anymore. Vet will checked her out and judge age today. Think it can be quite hard with strays who've been outside a while...

wah good marketing competition ploy to get people to adopt the cats!! only joking. Yes its DEFelineTLY a sign!
take the necessary cat sleeping on baby for warmth netting type preventions and I'm sure it'll be fine.

Hairynigel · 09/01/2012 11:35

Depends on the cat, I wouldn't adopt a cat whilst having a newborn. Has the cat got any ishoos? Was she abused and will need extra tlc while settling in to her new home if you get her?

Personally I would wait till you are feeling settled with your new baby before getting a rescue cat.

I can see the temptation though, just don't rush it and regret it

MrsHuxtable · 09/01/2012 11:36

No it wasn't, Twinkle. Old cat was already a 13 year-old rescue cat when we adopted so we never got to chose her name. I'm not THAT weird either.

I know Hairy, she might come back from the vets today with god knows what illness or the cat shelter owner might say, once she knows the cat, she needs a home without young children. There's a lot of ifs. Rescue woman takes matching of cats and families extremely serious. She's an amazing woman...

You should get the cat Grin

We adopted a rescue cat four months ago and he is an awesome kitty and our lives are great with him around. He's lovely and snuggly and good company!

Get the kitty Grin

She's back from the vets. They first thought she's quote old but was now aged at 5/6, just in very shocking condition. Totally emaciated and neglected. Perfectly healthy and friendly otherwise. She may well have to stay in the shelter for at least a couple of months anyway.

I really hope it turns out she can live with a baby.
