to not go to work and stay at home with my DS?

DS who is 3.2yrs has been having a high temp for the past 3 days. won't eat anything, was mainly watching telly during the weekend as he was poorly for anything else. This morning, he had a temp of 38degs so ofcourse I stayed off from work and kept him off nursery.
I have a doctors appointment booked for him in a few minutes.

Now that we are home, he seems full of life, no temp at all (although could be cos we gave him calpol at about 7am this morning), happily playing with his train set, ate some food on the way home in the pram from dropping DD off at nursery...anyway just feels like he's not ill. And this is after I've sent various e-mails to work explaining why i can't come to work and trying to arrange somebody to pick up DD too. now I am feelign guilty that I haven't gone to work when he's not really that ill.

So WIBU to stay at home with him? Most mums would have done the same as me...no? Work doesn't know that he's not bed ridden and very ill. But feel guilty all the same. Funny how he perked up just when we got home Hmm

This is happened with both of mine on occasion. Like you say he may have perked up due to having some medicine, see how he is later. Once my eldest did this and she was fine, i think just wanting a day off - i took her in about 11.00! Not suggesting you do that, your ds is much younger and maybe it is was one of those things that goes as quickly as it started. Do not feel bad though - surely you have done what most mums would do, you need to know he's ok and you would only be worried at work YANBU!

I think you made a reasonable decision based on how he was at the home. You might find (I often do with mine when they have been ill) that although he is fine this morning he has conked out again by mid-afternoon.

home = time

Sounds like he's doing the thing of being well when on calpol but is not necessarily entirely well in himself - so a nursery wouldn't want him in anyway. So YANBU - hope he gets well soon.

Took him to the doctors, who said that he has a red and swollen throat, but not tonsilitis. He had lunch too, so I think he is on the mend. But judging how he was at the weekend I really didn't think he will be OK at nursery. But I think he will be fine tomorrow.

Trying to hold down a job whilst having 2 small ones is hard work and me and DH can only have a limited amount of days off for their sickness (like all working parents), so taking a day off work is a big deal, so is's a bit Hmm when your LO doesn't even appear to be ill!

It's very hard trying to make the decision over whether a child is ill enough for a day off at 7am. Which is pretty much when you do have to make the descison, because if they are going to go to school or nursery and you are going to go to work, you need to be getting a move on by then. Or you need to be making the necessary arrangements for them to stay home.

Cut yourself some slack, I think we have all been in the position you are in today. I know I have and I'm quite harsh about sending them in when they aren't feeling right.

Don't worry about it and enjoy your day off.

Its even more Hmm when nursery send dc home because of 'diarrhea', when really you know its because they had too much weetabix for breakfast, that you have told nursery not to give to them!
