Ok he doesnt have much money. He is a SAHD but I know my MIL gave him some cash to get me a few things.

AIBU to have secretly shed a little sad tear after I received an identical body scrub to the one I received for xmas 2 weeks ago :( :(

I feel like a bit of a cow but just a bit well sad I guess.

Silly me. It's my birthday I should be happy!!!

Oh, and if it makes you feel any better, DP bought all my birthday presents from Sainsbury's, on my birthday (so I didn't even get them until later in the day) I cried (but I was 38 weeks pregnant so that was my excuse!)

I think it's all relative. My dh has failed to bother to buy me anything for my birthday for two years running now. For Christmas this year he asked if I'd like a spa weekend, but has done nothing about it. I will have to book it myself. He's just crap at stuff like that. But he's truly wonderful in other ways so I just overlook the present thing and buy myself stuff when I feel like it

diddl · 07/01/2012 11:49

Well I have to concur that I would rather have had nothing than 2 lots of body scrub-especially as I don´t use them!

fedupofnamechanging · 07/01/2012 11:51

I think it's a bit rubbish and shows lack of thought, so yanbu. He doesn't have to spend a lot of money in order to get you something which shows he thinks about you enough to make a bit of an effort.

Some people are just crap with gift buying though.

Trills · 07/01/2012 11:53

LOts of SAHMs get the "don't want to spend your money" thing.

This is what you should do to combat that feeling (IMO).

Get one bank account that is a joint account in both your names, put enough money in there to pay for rent/mortgage, bills, transport, food, all child-related costs. Both of you have access to this.

Split the remainder between two accounts. One in your name, one in his. You both have equal spending money and so when he needs to buy something like this he won't feel funny about spending your money on you. He'll be spending his spending money.

ahhhhhpushit · 07/01/2012 11:56

we cant have joint accounts, he's bankrupt.

Warlocks - that is fabulous! Your Mum must have been wondering how she'd brought you up!!

Early Jan birthdays/late Dec birthdays are rubbish. My Dad once gave away all my B'day presents on Christmas day because he couldn't remember how my Mum had split them and kept asking where such and such was!

People are so 'present'ed out from Christmas that your birthday gets downgraded. I was actually due Xmas day though so I'm glad my Mum was 2 weeks late! I always try and make a special effort for xmas and NYE b'days because a lot of people don't

I wouldn't mind about the BOGOF - but he could have got different things!

For me, I would prefer the evening out to a present every time.
