... To think the health workers are being idiots?

My baby was 50th percentiles for weight and height since he was born. Since then, he's risen to 98+ for weight. As he's breastfed, the health workers at the weigh-in clinic skirt around the issue, but one has specifically suggested I rock him more rather than feed him. They have never checked his height.

Anyway, so we've measured him ourselves. He's top percentile for height. Hardly average! AIBU to think the health workers can shove their muttering up their bums?

"My baby was 50th percentiles for weight and height since he was born" - sorry, meant to say when he was born.

I think they should shove their centiles up their asses while they're at it. Why do you bother going? Genuine question. If I want
My baby weighed I will weigh them myself.

Flisspaps · 05/01/2012 16:41

Seeing as they appear to be looking at his weight as a stand-alone thing rather than accounting for the fact he is also long/tall, then yes.

You could just stop taking him to be weighed...

Lulumama · 05/01/2012 16:41

some health workers are idiots for sure. just like some people from every walk of life and profession etc are idiots

perhaps you could suggest that they measure his height or just not take him again?

G1nger · 05/01/2012 16:42

So that I don't have to step on the scales myself ;) when measuring him for nappy size.

I think I will change where I get him weighed. I quite like to have the little updates every few weeks but not if they're going to keep muttering at me about his weight.

Ah I get it but that's hard one, the scales versus the HV.

AngryMotherF · 05/01/2012 16:47

You know that your baby is fine, so just choose to I gunfire the hp's.

I know it's hard because you worry about your baby and all the rest of it, that's normal, but I think you need to spend some time trying to convince yourself that your opinion on your baby is more valid than a set of centiles devised to suit millions of babies.

It's like anything, take from it what you need, and ignore there rest. The HP's are there to help you, and if they aren't doing that then ignore them until you ask them for something and you like the sound of their advice.

BTW, my baby did the same as yours, just shot up the centiles after he was born. I can remember them asking me if I was putting anything like rusks in his bottles Hmm Erm, no. He was exclusively breast fed on demand as per the advice. He is now 11 and absolutely fine.

AngryMotherF · 05/01/2012 16:49

Ugh! Auto correct is really pissing me right off today! Gunfire (!?) is supposed to be ignore.

eurochick · 05/01/2012 16:50

Just ignore them. Previous generations were fine when no one ever talked about centiles and just let mothers judge themselves whether or not their babies looked a healthy size.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 05/01/2012 16:57

hmmmm gunfire was sometimes my prefered option back in the days Wink in my head obviously!
