To think the GP surgery should have this sorted by now?

My DS2 is due his second batch of jabs (was due Xmas week so they booked it in for the 3rd of January), they called the week before Xmas to say that their fridge has broken so they can't do jabs until 10th...........no problem

The called yesterday say we need to cancel as no fridge, i pointed out that this was the second time they had postponed since fridge broke on 20th December and would it be a problem as DS will be nearly 15 weeks by the time he gets them, the nurse replied that it was not ideal.

They are a fantastic surgery so i am loathed to complain but AIBU to have expected them to have it sorted?

nope, defo NBU. I've been trying to get a blood test sorted since november 10th. If they don't cancel they lose the bloods then two lots of holiday so no one to take it, now its 3 weeks and the results are in but they doctor "hasn't had time to look yet". Sometimes they can be bloody useless (don't get me started on when I had my appendix out!!)

blimey Mrstwinks that's bad, see my surgery don't take bloods but when i had them done at the hospital (late afternoon) I recieved a letter from my GP 2 days later asking me to pop in.........i should be more grateful i think

I don't know.
I don't know enough to know if it makes much of a difference.
When can they do it?

dribbleface · 04/01/2012 13:54

sandalwood they don't know yet...they will be in touch. I wasn't sure if it would make a difference thats why i asked the nurse who called and she just replied its not ideal? Whatever that means?

I'm with dribbleface. I have a lovely surgery.
Had to call in today to collect a prescription and they were saying how many of the staff - including the doctors were poorly - just the same as the rest of us.

Sidge · 04/01/2012 13:56

It's not ideal but if they're waiting on a delivery of a pharmaceutical fridge then there's not much they can do about it.

I imagine the Christmas/New Year period delayed delivery of a new fridge maybe?

danceswithyarn · 04/01/2012 13:57

Not ideal as doesn't fit in exactly with the protocol laid down in your red book. It does mean your DC isn't protected for the intervening period though.

I'd suggest getting in touch with a local walk in clinic and seeing if they can do it for you (take your book along, they'll write in it as well as writing to your own GP).

dribbleface · 04/01/2012 13:58

Sidge do they need a certain fridge then Blush thinking about it of course they do.......guess its not their fault then, but you would think that these things are pretty instant. The nursery i run has a contract for its fridges (different i know) but when they break we can have a new one within 24 hours

I was going to suggest asking your GP surgery if they can arrange for you to go elsewhere.

Kayano · 04/01/2012 13:58

If they did this to me with my needle phobia I would be in such a state and honestly my mental health would be shot
To pieces.

I have to psyche myself up everytime I see a needle and before my
Last lot I had a breakdown the day before and got signed off with anxiety.

So yanbu. Sad

dribbleface · 04/01/2012 13:59

dancewithyarn thats a good idea. Thanks

Kayanao my friend has a terrible needle phobia, you could see her turning a strange colour just seeing one on the TV..............she had hypnotherapy and is now a childrens nurse!

dribbleface · 04/01/2012 14:00

Zillionchocolate they said they were looking into this being a possibility.

Kayano · 04/01/2012 14:02

I see a psychologist and a hypnotherapist already and am due my first baby in feb so got a big challenge ahead of me BlushConfused

Don't think I will ever be 'comfortable' with having a needle

PenguinArmy · 04/01/2012 14:04

In the states they have two months between the jabs; we moved in the middle of them.

Sidge · 04/01/2012 14:04

Walk in clinics won't do baby imms.

And the baby is still protected from it's first 5-in-1 imms, it just means the booster interval is slightly extended which isn't a huge problem as there is "vaccine memory". Of course it won't yet be protected against Men C (the one due not yet given) but hopefully they'll be sorted soon and can give it ASAP.

Yes it has to be a pharmaceutical fridge. They are purchased by the GP practice so are unlikely to be under any sort of service contract like commercial appliances.

dribbleface · 04/01/2012 14:05

Kayano bless you...good luck with your new arrival.
