WIBU to buy my sisters the same birthday present?

2 x DSis with birthdays in Jan - it is always mega hard thinking of good present ideas so soon after Christmas. They both eat a lot of veggies and I have been totally wowed by Hugh FW's Veg Everyday cookbook.

WIBU to buy two copies in the sales or does this show a total lack of imagination? Confused Do you feel cheated if you find out a close family member got someone else exactly the same gift?

I got Veg Everyday for Xmas - it's fab, even though I've not made anything from it yet. If you don't think your DSis would mind then I think YANBU

No I think it's a great idea. You could maybe buy them each a small food related something to go with it too and make those different. I've not seen the book so don't know if there are any 'special' ingredients in it but maybe things like: small pot of saffron / nice mustard / posh olive oil or balsamic vinegar / vanilla pods etc.

Yes, buy them both the book but give them something different to accompany it.

Then perhaps make a joke about them both having to invite you over for dinner, Come Dine With Me style.

I was going to suggest maybe ordering a veg box to go with the book :)

acsec can't really afford anything else as am skint post-Xmas (I had the family over for the hols so out of pocket) and also DSis3 lives in a country where you can't send food items. Good idea for DSis 2 though :)

It is an amazing book, DP made turnip + potato dauphinoise and sprouts with lemon and thyme tonight to use up old Xmas veg and they were both amazing! Also the beetroot and feta salad, and the lentils and fennel....

In fact everything we've made from it has been really nice.

Give one of them this instead, I've heard great things about it.

It dos seem a bit unimaginative to get them the same thing, so Y would be a little bit U.

acsec · 03/01/2012 22:16

Ah, Yonder I too am in the skint boat and have my best friend, her mum ad my neice's bdays this month. Plus my washing has broken :(

I am going food shopping tomorrow eve, weather too atrocious this evening, I will look in my veg everyday book of wonder and decide what I'm having this week :)

I don't know if this is an option but what about getting the Nigel Slater Tender books, one is about veg, the other about fruit.

On the other hand, I got my nan a mini chopper for Christmas, she got me one for my birthday in Sept just gone, if something is good it is good, forget about the fact that people are having the same present

thepeoplesprincess · 03/01/2012 22:20

Just do it. I'm sure they'll both be mature enough to put their big girl pants on and cope with it.

YonderRevoltingPeasantWhoIsHe · 03/01/2012 22:21

Not so keen on Nigel - he uses masses of butter and things and neither of my sisters eats that much animal fat - but yes, it's a good point about sth being good. Thanks for the other reccy Trills will have a look.

Mum and I a week apart and dsis often gets us the same, cant see why it would be an issue at all

TroublesomeEx · 03/01/2012 22:41

The book Trills recommended looks good. It's also available on Kindle.

Who'd get a recipe book for Kindle? How would you make little notes on it and annotate the recipes?

OP I don't think it's a problem getting the same present for your sisters. It wouldn't bother me. but them I'm pretty easy going and not prone to getting huffy about things like this!
