to be pleased that the scientists agree that you should close the lid before you flush??

here. I saw about the spread of germs from an open toilet flush on Kim & Aggie years ago and have always closed the lid before flushing since and so does DH.

Recall previous threads on here where people disagree but surely it makes sense that germs are contained if the lid is closed?? If I ever have to use a toilet without a lid I always prep myself ready to pull handle and close door behind me before the plume arises Wink......

Arse biscuit, Worra?

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2012 18:24
Grin Quick, someone get hully!! POO PARTICLES!!!
Sparklingbrook · 03/01/2012 18:25

Oh yes the plume goes all over your toothbrushes. Hmm

Feminine · 03/01/2012 18:29

I don't understand this.

The germs do collect on your toothbrush if its close by ...maybe not enough to make you sick...but they do fly up.

I have never used a toilet without a lid...no idea what I would do.

RachelHRD · 03/01/2012 18:30

LoL - no poo troll here - but with 2 DC's with bowel issues my life does revolve around it so it's my main conversation piece Grin

G'awn Biscuit me Worra, you know you want to Wink....

Ugh, I could never flush a toilet with the lid up, assuming there is a lid. It's common sense that the contents will spray all over your toothbrushes isn't it?

The article says 'c diff can get to 10" above the toilet seat' but unless you've got a toothbrush holder at the height near your toilet Confused there shouldn't be a problem, surely?

aldiwhore · 03/01/2012 19:06

YABU and slightly pedantic to care quite so much.

I am not ill or dead and well, with 3 males to my one female, I'd rather pick my battles more effectively than air borne poo particle debate with them.

Like I say, I am not ill or dead.

I see it as an immune system boosting practice that is free.

aldiwhore · 03/01/2012 19:07

My toothbrushes are not kept near the toilet.

CointreauVersial · 03/01/2012 19:10

But if you put the lid down before you flush, how do you check that everything has....ahem....gone?

Feenie · 03/01/2012 19:10

YANBU - see, this supports my argument that toilet rolls should not be sent into school for craft purposes!

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2012 19:11

"imagine a public loo"

I definitely don't keep my toothbrush there! Grin

Catsmamma · 03/01/2012 19:12

did they not bust this on Mythbusters?

SiamoNellaMerda · 03/01/2012 19:12

You know someone was asking earlier, or yesterday, about the thread on MN that had made you laugh the most?

Well this is it.

What the fuck planet are you people on? Grin

Sparklingbrook · 03/01/2012 19:12

Our old school would have the loo rolls as long as they were microwaved first. I think. Shock

Nanny0gg · 03/01/2012 19:14

CV - you lift it up afterwards and check?

breaktime73 · 03/01/2012 19:15

Thank god I am not alone!!

I am an anally obsessive toilet lid closer and now I have, er, closure....

Don't worry OP. No one understands OCD except the sufferers and those who have to live with them! But we're right!! :D

mercibucket · 03/01/2012 19:20

Nah having been to 'horrible science' which I'm sure is at least as good as your academic sources, I am confident that putting the lid down only results in pressure building up under the lid and thus scattering poo bits even further and in a wider area. This was proved using 3d bogglevision. I rest my case

BleurghUna · 03/01/2012 19:29

Shutting the lid means the lid and the seat both get splattered with poo particles and so you get germs on your hands next time you put the lid down. Next time you use the toilet you also have to wipe the poo splatters off before you sit on it.
Or just leave the lid up, the poo splatters will be dispersed over a wider area and therefore less harmful.

Listzilla · 03/01/2012 19:35

BleurghUna, you might get poo particles after you lift the lid but there's this bit at the end of it all where you put those hands under hot water and rub slippy slidey stuff on them and the poo particles all fall off.
