to wonder what the point of baby socks and baby shoes is?

I think it would be easier to keep an eel on a lead than to make them stay on....

Surely it's not so difficult to make outdoor trousers with feet on them?

OK, rant over...

They want your money.

Lizcat · 03/01/2012 15:31

The lovely Gap ones stay on much better than all the rest.

DS wears socks when his babygros don't have feet or he's in soft trousers. They never come off and keep his feet warm.

Shoes on the other hand? I have no idea.

Tee2072 · 03/01/2012 15:33

They look cute. For the 2 seconds they stay on.

Sluttybuttons · 03/01/2012 15:34

My ds wears tights. The amount of socks that would get lost was a nightmare so i started putting tights on him. He is 17 months

KnitterInTheNW · 03/01/2012 15:35

Pumpkin Patch thick towelling socks stay on really well, and keep tiny feet nice and warm.

No idea. DD never wore them, I never bought them. Couldn't stop friends and relations buying them though.

SootySweepandSue · 03/01/2012 15:40

Don't buy baby shoes until your child is walking. You will need the cash for when they start to outgrow real shoes every 6 weeks.

Seriously, I recently had to retreat from my local indie shoe shop as the Cheapest pair of winter boots they had were £60!!!! Kid you not. We reckon we would have 8 weeks in them tops.

Socks are useless too, but you can never have enough tights...if only I knew how to stop them bobbling in the wash...sigh...

happygilmore · 03/01/2012 15:41

May as well burn your money I think.

Oggy · 03/01/2012 15:42

I second the Gap socks remark. Only ones that stayed on mine.

No point to them early doors when they love in sleep suits, but once you get them in proper clothes you need the socks to keep the feet warm and you need the shoes to keep the socks on.

Angelswings · 03/01/2012 15:43

So that passing strangers can comment, or pick up the lost shoe and start a conversation

Onetwothreeoops · 03/01/2012 15:44

Sock-ons are the answer, brilliant invention!

HandMini · 03/01/2012 15:45

For those without cash to burn, I found Sainsburys TU range socks stayed on very well. Tights even better idea, esp in winter under trousers.

sheepgomeep · 03/01/2012 15:45

Tights are the way to go. Dd3 possesses no socks and loads of tights, they keep them warm and they can't pull them off! I used to put ds in tights too,

carciofi · 03/01/2012 15:46

I was just about to recommend Sock-ons.

ATruthFestivelyAcknowledged · 03/01/2012 15:47

Socks = to keep their feet warm
Shoes = to keep their socks on

I always think shoes look a bit odd on babies though so you need sock ons

TheScaryJessie · 03/01/2012 15:50

I have a bit of a bee in my bonnet about newborns' feet being pinched by stupid decorative shoes, so I think:

They're products for rich parents or first-time parents who-were-not-blessed-with-foresight-by-their-fairy-godmothers.

Occasionally, depending on weather, they are vaguely functional for keeping a baby's feet warm.

TimeWasting · 03/01/2012 15:51

Do they not put pressure on the feet?

Oggy · 03/01/2012 15:52

*live in sleepsuits

Bobux shoes are nice...like little leather slippers. Again, for those with money to burn or canny on eBay!

We used sock ons for DD until she figured out how to pull them off.
Socks are one of her favourite things to gnaw on and I'm currently using socks as mittens because I'm too mean to buy any
