DP thinks so Angry

It's only really drizzling here, I want to get out of the house, the children will sleep anyway and will be warm, covered up & have a rain cover. I'll use an umbrella.

AIBU?

no - they will not melt

AllYourCakeAreBelongToXmas · 03/01/2012 11:22

Of course not. Mine play out in the garden in the rain if they want to.

lesley33 · 03/01/2012 11:22

Perfectly fine

Meglet · 03/01/2012 11:23

yanbu.

I send mine in the garden with biscuits in the rain. They haven't gone rusty yet.

Lueji · 03/01/2012 11:26

YANBU

DS loves playing in the rain.
I'm not keen on getting wet myself, but a drizzle is perfectly manageable.

Rosa · 03/01/2012 11:28

Mine did 2 days ago - they started off with umbrellas then gave up had hoods up and they paddles in puddles - I had a change of trousers for the car home . I was fed up of staying inside.

RainWalker · 03/01/2012 11:29

He is Italian, and thinks that the children will get ill if we go outside Confused

YANBU at all.

My dd loves the rain! Puddles are great fun Smile

Pozzled · 03/01/2012 11:32

Yanbu. DP is being an idiot a little overprotective.

rushofbloodtothefeet · 03/01/2012 11:32

Mine love to play out in the rain and get muddy and wet - it feels naughty! And the best bit is coming in and taking off wet clothes, jumping in a hot bath then snuggling up in front of the TV with some milky hot chocolate. We've done it loads over the holidays, to the extent we look out and go 'yippee it's raining again' Grin

RainboweBrite · 03/01/2012 11:33

Go for it!

CogitoErgoSometimes · 03/01/2012 11:34

YANBU if it's only drizzling. Where I am the rain is lashing down sideways and the wind is ferocious. Not a good day for a stroll.

Ifancyashandy · 03/01/2012 11:35

Hmm. Normally I'd say YANBU but just started to train SO hard here that I can't see out of the window clearly! Proper sideways, sheeting, you'd be soaked down to your knickers rain!

Looks amazing...from indoors!

I wish you were my mum. I was never allowed out the house in the rain when all I wanted to do is go splash in some puddles.
It's free and fun, go for it

muddywindydales · 03/01/2012 11:58

Normally, it's a bit high today, DD will go for a swim walk in the ford.Grin

Rosa · 03/01/2012 12:16

Rain walker tell him that Rosa's children are Italian and they survived ok ......

lljkk · 03/01/2012 12:19

There was a brilliant funny piece on radio recently, I think World Service, about how the Italians suffer badly from so many cold weather ailments that the British never heard of, you should look for it on iPlayer/iPod thingie, OP.

Go go go... it is blowing a dark gale here & heavy rain, & we will go out anyway (3 errands to run).

thanksamillion · 03/01/2012 12:24

OP I live somewhere with similar culture to Italy and they have exactly the same thing. No one will go out in the rain if they can help it - builders don't work, the medical centre was amazed when I turned up with the DCs in the rain.

I had to teach myself the phrase 'they don't melt' and repeat. But locals truely believe that they'll get ill and it's almost impossible to disprove Hmm

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/01/2012 12:29

DH is north african so took a bit of time to adjust to me taking the children out in the rain. I did point out to him that if you live in Britain you will be keeping your children in for half of the year if you try to avoid the rain.

mumeeee · 03/01/2012 12:38

YANBU. They will be fine you DP is being over protective.

Pixel · 03/01/2012 13:04

A bit of drizzle never hurt anyone. I would take ds out if it was only drizzling here, we don't like being stuck in the house. I had to go and see to horses earlier and got soaked to the skin, I was glad that dh was here and I didn't have to take ds as I'd planned, simply because the wind is so strong, there are branches, roadworks and all sorts flying about.

bonkersLFDT20 · 03/01/2012 14:19

this is what lljkk is talking about.

Just went for a run. Started off freezing and getting drenched and finished off in beautiful sun! If you live in the UK you can't let the weather stop you getting on with your life!

Lueji · 03/01/2012 23:25

Moving from the UK to a Southern European country, I was a little surprised that the school did not ask for wellies and a rain coat for the break. Instead they asked for a large plastic rain coat for the short walk to the canteen.

But then we struggle to convince my dad that DS actually feels too hot and doesn't need snow equipment to go out in mild weather. Wink

FannyBazaar · 03/01/2012 23:30

Are they wearing shorts? Took my DS out for a bike ride today in the wind and threatening rain, in his shorts. Definitely not unreasonable. I still struggle with the children not being allowed out to play at school on rainy days.
