My DD has turned 3 last month and 4 nights ago i took the cotbed side off (after an illness, shes just become potty trained thro day, still in nappies at night). The first night was great after a stern talking to she stayed in her bed all night, the past 3 nights however, shes been up n down like a yoyo, waking her brother (6) and I'm absolutely shattered. Back to work tomorrow. AIBU to put the cotbed side back on and leave it til she is dry thro the night? I have annual leave for the feb school hols so could maybe try again then? Or do i just have to be strong and see it thro? And yes i've done back to bed routine, i've done blackmail, bribery and plain shouting! and she still gets up, and is a nightmare thro the day cos shes tired and I'm tired and its not fun!

Tell her before she goes to bed that you will NOT be getting up to see what all the racket is about, and if she mucks around there will be no telly tomorrow - or whatever! (hard core mother! Wink)

Hope you get some sleep! :)

My son learnt to climb out of his cot and hurt himself at 2.1, Envy of you succeeding until now. I was going to type exactly the same as Valium in her first post at 12:26.

I just return them to bed with a blank expression, no eye contact and say nothing. Over and over until they give up and go to sleep. Sooner or later they finally get the message. It takes days not weeks. Although from time to time my son still tries his luck and he's almost 3 now. I find making sure he is tired at bedtime makes things easier. So I've dropped his final nap now Wink but he goes down 6.30 - 7pm now with not a murmur. So I get a whole evening to myself. Possibly sounds selfish but as a divorced single mum, I so need that time to recuperate.

Hope tonight goes better for you. It is just a stage. This too shall pass.

Dont bother putting the side back on just turn it round so that the open side is facing the wall. it's what I had to do

And 3 year olds definitely fit in cots. DD is going to be in hers (hopefully without its side) until she's at least 4/5. Her room is only ever so slightly bigger than a shoebox!

DeepPurple · 02/01/2012 20:19

I'm surprised she still fits in a cot! She's old enough to know she has to stay in bed. I'd tough it out.

Its a cotBED! Its says upto 7 yrs on the box, tho bother my DCs are very tall for their age (10lb-ers - ouch!) so i expect she'll be out of it before she starts school. Besides I'm looking forward to buying her a pink girly princess bed! Tho I expect that wont last long either, before so wants some black coffin shaped one!

DD3 was in a cot until she was over 3. We just took ages to get round to
getting her a bed. I think having a stair gate across the bedroom door is actually more dangerous.

Teaandcakeplease · 02/01/2012 22:23

I just remembered something. My mum when my brother learnt how to climb out of it, just put a chair there to help him down better. 1970's health and safety Grin They couldn't afford to get him a bed at the time.

Flojo1979 · 02/01/2012 22:31

Ha I love that one teaandcake.
How is it more dangerous Mumeee? Dont say that when I've spent half the day buying one and screwing it to the recently sanded and glossed immaculate paintwork!!

Yay! I'm really pleased for you, I hope it's the first of many :)

Now, if only a stair gate will get ds2 (4mths) to sleep through...

Flojo1979 · 03/01/2012 22:33

Ha Birnamwood, indeed! I found baby rice did the trick for mine!!
