I just couldn't resist, thats my two SIL and 4 best friends sorted in the sale.

I feel ridiculous. Am I mad or ridiculously organised?

Oh I also have a bike in the garage for ds for christmas too. I am being unreasonable aren't I.

depends on how big the discounts are, how much spare cash you have now and how much storage space you have.

I often buy birthday presents post christmas.

Assuming you don't have any borrowings (other than mortgage) then YANBU.

Nope, sensible Smile

lisad123 · 01/01/2012 22:25

Not at all but wouldn't wait for bike as be great for him to ride in the Summer

SparkySparrow · 01/01/2012 22:25

Brilliant!
I'm going to start early this year! :)

Dumpyandabdabs · 01/01/2012 22:26

Next Christmas, Are you actually serious?!!! That is pretty darn impressive, at this rate you'll be done by the end of January.

foreverondiet · 01/01/2012 22:26

Yes good point about the bike, DD's birthday is in october and its a bad time for bike buying, just before the weather gets cold. Might be better to give in spring as early birthday present and give something smaller for birthday.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 01/01/2012 22:28

My rule is that there has to be at least a 50% reduction to make it worth it. I have already bought DD's winter coat for next year and a raft of clothes for next winter , plus some stocking fillers . IMO doing it steadily through the year stops me from impulse buying ,which more often than not makes me spend more on presents because I am pushed for time .

happynew2012 · 01/01/2012 22:28

You will just end up spending & buying more
I've done it myself

ChristmasCakeOclock · 01/01/2012 22:28

I would give him the bike but he's only 2 in Feb blush his legs won't reach the pedals in the summer. It was 9 pounds (down from 90) in Tesco moths ago so I couldn't resist.

The girls gifts were 75% off so lovely gifts for all and only came to 40 pounds, which I have. I have already done one birthday, waiting for the boots 75% off sale for the rest. I want to have everyones presents bought and wrapped by Nov then I can enjoy December with no shopping, wrapping, madness.

Very sensible. Bet your ds will look cute once his feet reach the pedals Smile

nooka · 01/01/2012 22:34

I think you are at least a little bit nuts. How do you know that your friends/SILs will need or want those presents this far in advance? I have in the past bought generic birthday presents in sales (for my children to take to parties they were invited to) but 12 months ahead just seems too far. I can see the temptation, especially for bigger things like bikes, but I'd worry too much about getting the right size - my dd grew 5 inches this summer, I have no idea how big she will be in a year's time (taller than me maybe!).

ChristmasCakeOclock · 01/01/2012 22:37

Yes but for 9 pounds for a bike I could sell it at a profit if he is a freakishly tall 3 year old. Xmas Grin

Oh and the SIL/friend gifts are lovely philosophy gift sets (christmas themed otherwise they would be birthday gifts). They won't go out of fashion.

My DD was quite short and feel didn't reach pedals of 12 inch bike until she was nearly 4, so would have been a long wait had I bought it when she was 1!

CuriousMama · 01/01/2012 22:44

I know loads of people who start now, why not? Not nuts at all Hmm And in the present state of the economy some have no choice. Am sure your friends will love their gifts.

To2012AndBeyondTheLimits · 01/01/2012 23:00

I started in January last year, was going to be super organised...
...Finished on christmas eve! Grin

MabelLucyAttwell · 01/01/2012 23:01

I've just bought a July birthday prsent. Cannot ignore wonderful opportunities.

Backtobedlam · 01/01/2012 23:07

Just make sure you know where you've put the gifts. Whenever I try to be super organised I forget where I've put them, or that I've brought a present for that person and then duplicate...only to find said gift in January the following year. Bike excluded, don't think even I could mislay a bike!
