AIBU to use my dog as a diet aid

My fit and healthy 12 year old dog is friendly and loved.

Its occurred to me that if I give her my food once I tire of eating it (eg a biscuit I've had a bite out of, or the boring outside bits of a slice of sponge cake) I'd consume less calories and my dog would be happy too. I could easily give my unwanted food to her, but it would feel wrong to throw it in the bin.

AIBU to use my dog as a diet aid?

YABU, if you are giving her cake etc, unless you normally feed her this stuff, then it is to late to change, i suppose. She is coming up to the age were her heart will be struggling anyway.

It isn't going to do anything to change your will power or eating habbits. If you still want to cheat lets be honest, you will just go bigger with your portion sizes.

If anything use her as an exercise aid.

Yabu and a bit daft dont give your dog cake put it in the bin eat less make less , people food its great for dogs and especially elderly dogs , and the fat in the cake will go right through her and skittery dog poop is eww , take her for a walk instead of eating or feeding her ,

squeakytoy · 31/12/2011 20:59

How about taking her an extra walk each day! that would be better for you and the dog!

LeBOF · 31/12/2011 21:04

It just sounds like a recipe for a sick fat dog to me.

SantasNutellaFairy · 31/12/2011 21:09

She's getting on in years and you want to stuff her up with really unhealthy shit that will put weight onto old fragile joints?

Of course you are being unreasonable- and unkind.

DoMeDon · 31/12/2011 21:11

Really? If that occurred to you as a good idea I feel sorry for your lone brain cell.

Why would it feel wrong to throw the food in the bin?

It's what I do, and I do it to the DC's unfinished (and un-salvageable dinners).

YABU. I've agreed today to make space for a third rescue dog that needs a loving home (despite a distinct lack of space and a young baby). I'm sure I could make room for yours - You clearly care very little about it if you woul consider feeding it such an unhealthy diet.

slowburner · 31/12/2011 23:25

Yabu. Take the dog for a walk every day for the next months, even of you don't eat any less you'll get healthier. And so will the dog, it might even live a bit longer.

Theres a reason why the food which won't do your dog any good isn't doing you any good.
