To let DS sleep on the floor

My 4 year old DS received a playhouse tent type thing for Christmas and was immediately smitten. Spent much of yesterday collecting ALL of his toys inside playhouse which is now set up in his bedroom. Put him to bed over an hour ago...just checked and his bed is empty. He has disappeared into playhouse along with his duvet and a few cushions and is fast asleep. AIBU to leave him in it? Technically he is sleeping on the floor but looks perfectly comfy. He will, I'm sure, immediately inform his teacher when he's back at school that he sleeps on the floor and I will be mortified.

(It does look so comfy though. I am considering climbing into it myself tomorrow and hiding there with my kindle and a bottle of gin....s'pose that may slightly BU particularly as I'd no doubt have to evict DS from playhouse first)

As long as he is comfy leave him there!

catwithflowers · 30/12/2011 21:32

My kids used to do this when little. My 10 year old still goes through phases of 'camping out' on the floor or sofa rather than sleeping in his bed. Lots of fun! Let your son enjoy it Smile

AgentZigzag · 30/12/2011 21:32

Definately leave him!

He'll let you know if he's not happy, and there's nothing better than sleeping in a den when you're 4 Smile

catwithflowers · 30/12/2011 21:33

Just don't leave him the bottle of gin Xmas Grin Xmas Grin

effingwotsits · 30/12/2011 21:34

That is so sweet! Leave him be, it's the fun of being a kid Grin

molepomandmistletoe · 30/12/2011 21:34

Leave him be, he's safe and asleep.

tigerlillyd02 · 30/12/2011 21:35

It's fine. My DS (2.1) sleeps on the floor more often than he does his bed. I don't know why he has a bed sometimes. In his case, it's nothing to do with camping or tents, he just prefers it. I never move him.

Your DS sounds like he was having lots of fun - it'd probably be disappointing to wake up in his bed Grin

starfishmummy · 30/12/2011 21:35

Sounds fun!!
He'll move back to his bed if he is uncomfortable so don't worry

hellhasnofury · 30/12/2011 21:36

Leave him be, he'll be fine. It is the job of small children to mortify their parents. We get our revenge when we're grey haired old ladies.

OldLadyKnowsSantaClaus · 30/12/2011 21:37

My DS2 used to sleep under his bed. Or curled up in a corner. Checking him at our bedtime was always a challenge.

theluckiest · 30/12/2011 22:25

Just checked him again...couldn't actually find him at first as he had snuggled into a corner under duvet and looks even more comfortable!

Never, catwithflowers! Tis finest Bombay Sapphire and mine, all mine....(although that probably would give his teacher a coronary. Sleeping on the floor nursing a bottle of gin. Might just send him up a chimney or train him to pickpocket to complete the picture...)

A friend of my DDs slept in a cardboard box for weeks. A big one, that some appliance or other had been delivered in. His teacher knew and thought it was as cute as the rest of us did!

sashh · 31/12/2011 07:23

Take a pic for him to show teacher when he gets back to school

cumbria81 · 31/12/2011 07:24

I sleep on the floor because I don't have space for a bed. It's absolutely fine.

TroublesomeEx · 31/12/2011 07:32

Oh OP, just imagine what was going through his head when he had the idea; and then when he was organising all of his possessions into the tent; and then when he set himself up and tucked himself in, checking that he had everything just where he wanted it.

This is what I love about children!

Did he stay there all night?

StickAForkInMeImDone · 31/12/2011 09:05

Aw Folkgirl you are so right. I should think like that more often. Smile

SqueezeMeBakingPowder · 31/12/2011 09:08

That is so sweet; and what FolkGirl said! Xmas Grin

Pozzled · 31/12/2011 09:14

Bless. My DD spent 2 nights 'camping' in a tent which took up most of our living room. It was a huge adventure to her. Although in her case she ended up in our bed halfway through the night!

Dillydollydaydream · 31/12/2011 09:14

My ds aged 4 did this when he got a playhouse for his birthday. He insisted on sleeping in it every night for about 2 weeks. In the end we put the old mattress from his cot bed inside as we were worried he'd be uncomfortable!
I remember when DDs wooden bed frame broke and she had to sleep on just the mattress until her new bed arrived. She told mil she was sleeping on the floor because her bed was broken. We had to explain she was actually sleeping on a mattress not the bare floor.

ScroobiousPip · 31/12/2011 09:27

Ah, v sweet. leave him be. my ds is another who spends most nights wrapped in a duvet on the rug on is bedroom floow - apparently he prefers it to sleeping in his bed, heavens only knows why.

ScroobiousPip · 31/12/2011 09:28

oops, sorry, just realised this was posted last night! Blush hope your ds had a good night's sleep!

theluckiest · 31/12/2011 20:26

Well he stayed there all night! Until 6am that is. I am very fortunate as he loves his sleep and usually gets up 7.30ish during school hols. He had a lovely time and enjoyed his adventure but think he was knackered tonight and opted for his own bed!

I fear a future filled with camping trips ( I am so not a camping kinda girl!) Oh well. He is definitely a Boys-Own kind of boy, likes roughing it and throwing himself about. As long as he doesn't become Bear Grylls...couldn't cope with the worry if he wants to throw himself off mountains and wrestle crocodiles...Still, as long as he's happy!

i got my son a tardis wardrobe and found him asleep in it again he looked comfy in it (in the morning said he had gone to the moon in his sleep ) take a piccy and use it for blackmail later

yawningmonster · 01/01/2012 06:20

ds has been found underneath the bunks, in a drawer, in his wardrope, and on the top bunk without the mattress amongst other creative sleeping places. He generally starts off in a normal bed but I have found him in several inventive places in the morning.

valiumredhead · 01/01/2012 10:07

We used to make 'dens' all the time as kids and mum just left us to it, we often slept in them. Great fun!
