There is,
as i type,

Half a Tiger loaf in my kitchen.

Following a tea of cornedbeef hash & thick buttered tiger bread to dip in, there is still half a loaf in there....

Damn to hell my DH for buying this.....I need it, all of it, with thick butter, i need it.
As if the chocolates & mince pies were not enough, now ive got Tiger bread to battle against....

DAGNAMIT!

baubleybobbityhat

slice? slice? That is so wrong, you pull it apart woith your hands.

If you do want it sliced neatly (Xmas Confused) you ask at the bread counter in the supermarket and they put it through the slicing machine.

CheerfulYank · 31/12/2011 07:37

What the frak is tiger bread?!

JaxTellerIsMyFriend · 31/12/2011 07:55

It is a large white, bloomer loaf, baked with some sesame oil 'painted' on top. The sesame oil 'cracks' when baked creating a pattern akin to tiger stripes (or giraffe markings) and tastes of heaven itself.

Dont you get it in US?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 31/12/2011 08:23

I love tiger bread but it doesn't keep very well. There's something a bit unpleasant about the texture of the crust the next day so eat it all at once.

so some friends popped round unnanounced as i was dishing up the cornedbeef hash and slicing the bread.

Felt obliged to offer them soe as it was a huge pan full and a huge tiger loaf, thanksfully they declined so the remaining loaf was mine all mine mwaaaw hahahahaa.
Twas lush n delish n i was in heaven right there, even the crumbs were carefully brushed into a pile then stuffed into my mouth.
Thats it for this year, i shall not buy another tiger loaf until next Christmas.
Wish they would stop making them.

What's tiger Bread?

If it's nice I'll buy it.

diddl · 01/01/2012 16:07

Thank goodness I´m not the only one who doesn´t get all the fuss about it.

After all the raving on here I was expecting something much more spectacular than a bloomer with a patterned crust.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/01/2012 16:20

It's not just a patterened crust, diddl - the sesame oil (and rice paste?) that are put on to make the pattern on the crust also impart an utterly delicious flavour and unparalleled crustiness. There is substance as well as style.

Patterened?? Stoopid SDTG. Patterned. Blush

OldMumsy · 01/01/2012 17:12

Tiger bread with a thick coating of nutella. It's so bad and yet so right.....

Hedgeblog · 01/01/2012 17:21

Can't stand it, makes me want to heave...yuk. Weird because I love sesame oil and seeds. Oh well, each to their own

RagamuffinAndFidget · 01/01/2012 17:34

You feckers. All of you.

Am currently loitering on Mumsnet when I should be doing the Tesco order and must now order tiger bread.

My 'carb reduction' resolution can wait, right?

ApocalypseCheeseToastie · 01/01/2012 17:37

I seem to have developed an addiction to tiger tails, painted with decent butter and overflowing with streaky bacon during the festivities Xmas Blush

Salt and pepper tiger is my new smack too, Dizzy. I gave my last two slices to my BF's DD after protesting that the pepper may be too much for her 11m/o palette. Little caah snaffled the lot Angry

After the christmas holidays I can no longer have a pack of butter in the fridge as I slice it like cheese on bread

soandsosmummy · 02/01/2012 19:32

Oh god I wish I'd never read this. Now nothing will do but a doorstep of tiger bread, lots of butter, mature cheddar and branston pickle and I have NO tiger bread :( I want some.

Oh and I want to try it with nutella too never thought of that

Mouth watering

storytopper · 02/01/2012 19:51

Raspberry jam.......mmmmmmm

iklboonkey · 02/01/2012 19:54

Just finished my tiger bread as two hugely thick slices of toast with lashings of butter and a big chunk of strong cheddar. Mmmmmmm.

SkivingAgain · 02/01/2012 20:01

Tiger bread is luvvvverly. I prefer it from Tesco or Asda, ones from the other supermarkets are not nearly as fluffy and nice. I like it with Lurpak spreadable, thick and cool but I am supposed to be wheat free so can only relive the memories Xmas Sad
