To be suspicious?

I ordered 5 items in the John Lewis sale. One item was £50, the other 4 came to £20 in total. John Lewis have despatched the items in three packages. I've received two items, in two packages. The other three items (together in one package) have gone missing, although the couriers website says all three packages have been signed for.

AIBU to be suspicious of the courier company, given that the higher value item is one of the missing ones?

Sorry, I've managed to be both confusing and boring :o

Was it Yodel?

cookielove · 30/12/2011 19:16

If it was Yodel you maybe up shit creek !!!!!!

ObviouslyOblivious · 30/12/2011 19:18

Ask to see the signature. Get in touch with John Lewis and make a fuss.

ObviouslyOblivious · 30/12/2011 19:20

I called John Lewis but UKMail were closed so they couldn't investigate for me. I'm calling back in the morning.

Surely the courier doesnt know what is in the parcel and how much its worth?

ObviouslyOblivious · 30/12/2011 19:43

Ah sorry, this is where I drip feed :o

When the 2 packages that I did get were delivered, I noticed that the van pulled up outside and the driver rummaged around in the back for about 5 minutes. I just thought he was looking for the orders. He then came to the door with the 2 packages, and I asked him where the other items were ad he said that they'd been put out on the wrong van ad should be with me tomorrow (today). I really was not suspicious at all, until I've looked up the order and seen that all three are showing as signed for. So could he have been opening/squishing/smelling(!) packages?

Did you sign for them?

NearlyMrsCustardsHardHat · 30/12/2011 19:47

Wouldn't be unheard of. I'd be suspicious for sure and as you complained instantly you should, fingers crossed, be ok. Check the tracking. My postie used to sign for my stuff and it went missing doesn't take a leap of imagination where it went but because he'd just put a squiggle on it was easy enough to get another item sent out. Good luck.

ballstoit · 30/12/2011 19:52

Was it a hand held device to sign or a piece of paper?

I had trouble with a courier with one of the screen signature things...he insisted that the previous screen said I'd only received 1 package but couldn't show me IYSWIM. He ended up delivering nothing because I wouldn't sign for 1 of 2 parcels until I could see that's all I was signing for. Took a couple of weeks for both to be redelivered.

DeWe · 30/12/2011 20:12

Did the other packages look opened?

If he was going to open the packages I'd have thought he would do it in an isolated spot rather than outside your house. Sometimes I've seen the van and walked down to it to collect the package.

ObviouslyOblivious · 30/12/2011 20:16

It was a PDA thingy, and I signed once for each package. The other packages were sealed plastic envelopes with one thing in each (clothing). The expensive missing item is a changing bag, and I reckon it may be in a box with the other two items, going from previous similar deliveries.

Uk mail abandoned a £40 item on my doorstep with no card through could they have left it somewhere? Lucky I chased up where it was cos I was out!

Bibulus · 30/12/2011 20:18

UKMail are shit. The presents I ordered from John Lewis a week before Christmas didn't arrive in time. UKMail never contacted me to tell me why. When I chased (and you have to really, really chase them!) they told me that my parcels had had battery acid spilled on them Hmm and they couldn't deliver any more in time for Christmas! gits

Oh yes and the email they sent me had an out of date phone number on it. When I found the real number, the message said they were too busy to take my call, and I couldn't leave a message.

I will never order goods for delivery from JL again! Thankfully JL were very good and gave me £15 refund for the inconvenience.

OP you should definitely complain to JL - the more people complain about UKMail the more likely it is that JL may drop them...

FriggFRIGGYPudding · 30/12/2011 20:27

We had two parcels due to arrive from JL before Xmas eve.
One arrived,the other didn't.
I contacted JL customer service, didn't bother with the courier company as obviously I'd had no card or anything.

JL sent an apologetic email, and refunded me immediately.no questions.

'twas fab.Smile

Well I'm quite upset because they were all sale items and are now out of stock. I've treated myself to something nice to carry around instead of that bloody Boots changing bag and now I won't be able to have it :(

Ok. I'm fine now :)

Called JL this morning, UkMail still not answering phones :(

It's here!! A neighbour brought it over today, they signed for it without realising it wasn't for them. Now, when I say neighbour that is being charitable - they live about 4 roads away so if they hadn't brought it over I never would have found it. So, I'm happy now :)

Fuzzywuzzywozabear · 01/01/2012 12:08

Thank goodness for neighbour - rubbish service from couriers tho

dearprudence · 01/01/2012 12:08

So you were being unreasonable to be suspicious of the courier company Wink

ObviouslyOblivious · 01/01/2012 12:16

You're right! I should have suspected that they were twats not thieves!
