I'm a health professiona and work 12 hr shifts as that is how it is done whereI work.

Now, I only work 23 hrs a week, which is two shifts. But say this week, I have just done a night shift [slept 9 until 2.30] and then had to get up ans I am on tomorrow 8am until 8pm so I Have To Sleep Tonight.

So now I have an awful awful headache. And I will have tomorrow after the longday,a dn most of sunday.
Monday I'll be ok, but I'm back on 2 nights so back to where I started.

I think after nights I go into such a deep sleepmy neck sufers and it makes me feel sick and heady. I'm drinking like a fish to try rehydrate 9can't drink too much at work as there isn't time to wee when you need too!)

ANy shift worked have any ideas?

Am so fed up of my days off being spoiled. This shouldn't be in AIBU but I am fed up and want a moan.

thank you all posters, for tips and moral support Xmas Smile

Day off today. Yay. Except I slept 11pm to 10am, then fell asleep on couch at 2pm until 5.30!!! Not what dh or dcs had in mind for nye or a clear day at home. Was meant to enjoy them. It's good as I should be fit for my nights tomorrow and be able to give a good service, but what about home? The service I give there is shite

I think I am sleeping too much actually, and certainly too much out of routine. I can't do diddly about the routine, and if I sleep less I'll be desperately tired on nights. That isn;t fair on patients.

I don't know what to do for the best really.

Headache has arrived, so am off to try asprin. And am planning to try walking as soon as it stops pouring.

Thanks again everyone, but isn't it sad we all feel so crap either at work or at home?

worried & carol don't know if this helps but I found I started getting headaches after marathon marking sessions (uni lecturer, crazy schedules mean we have to turn around an entire module's - c.100 students' - work in a weekend and such) and you get cramp from hunching and writing for 13 hrs straight.

I found pilates helped enormously if you can get a good teacher. They spend ages, and I mean ages, just stretching the neck to take tension out. Try tipping your head shoulder to ear and then looking up at the ceiling to get an idea - you'll find a sweet spot where it really pulls.

They also do rolldowns where you suck your tummy muscles in and slooooooowly bend down with your chin to chest and your arms hanging down. Makes your lower back feel amazing if done right.

Totally worth the price of classes and when you can do it you can do it on your own. x
