I've been reading (and starting!) some New Year's Eve threads and have seen quite a few comments about poor old JH and his Hootenanny - people saying it makes them feel depressed and want to gouge their own eyes out

I know it's hardly the TV event of the year and it's filmed mid-December and he does have some shit dodgy acts on sometimes but I find him quite sweet and mildly amusing and I don't mind watching it.

Genuinely curious why it gets up peoples' noses so much.....

I have never had a hogmanay live up to expectations. Never. I'm delighted now to have DS, my cast iron excuse for not leaving the house.

Oh I quite like it. I like seeing Lenny pissed up and the twat wearing a clock costume and the faux jollity.

We have a good NYE routine going - every year (since 2000) the same friends come to ours for a meal, we're done with the eating and the chatting by 11 ish and then the 4 of us watch Jools. So we get the "doing something" bit and the "can't be arsed to go to much effort" bit.

@ *tigermoll's FOMO scenarios. Almost worse, is actually staying to the bitter end of these night's out because of FOMO. Why can't I be cool about this stuff?

JH was totally ruined for me when learned it wasn't live. At least you could console yourself that there were members of the audience who looked a bit bored on NYE. But, no, now I just think everyone there is at a real party somewhere else with all the good-looking popular people and I'm stuck in again pretending I don't mind.

Not looked at the line-up but, um just guessing here, Beverley Knight and Ruby Turner by any chance?

Mmm Alan Carr is on at the same time. Could I be a littlebit unfaithful to Jools?
