Puking in the bath...

malakadoush · 30/12/2011 11:04

My DH was ill last night - he had a bug - and instead of being sick in the loo he did it in the bath. This is the second time he's done it - he says chucking up in the loo is disgusting Hmm

I was so annoyed about him doing it in the bath I found it hard to be sympathetic. Spent half a hour bleaching and 'dettleing' the bathroom at midnight.

AIBU??

Olympia no need to interrupt 'Enders..or Sunday lunch.. Grin

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 30/12/2011 12:02

Well, I get his point, if you think about it chucking up down the loo is pretty disgusting........

If DH was ill and chucked up in the bath I would clean it up for him...when you feel sick and ill the last thing you need to do is clean sick. However, if he was sick in the bath coz he was pissed then yes, I would expect him to clean it up himself!

SilentBoob · 30/12/2011 12:03

Rofl Olympia. Why on earth would you assume that? No, I like my vomiting to be as private as anyone else. My bowl lives in the bathroom!

partytights · 30/12/2011 12:05

That's disgusting. Instead of throwing up where it can be flushed away, where waste is meant to go he throws up in the bath where people BATHE?

No. That's really wrong. I can understand if it was accidental as there are times we all can't get there in time but to purposely do it is rank.

PeachyPossum · 30/12/2011 12:27

Olympia, I throw up so much over at least two evenings of the week that my immediate family are used to it and its just normal, it would make life even more miserable if I hid away on my own every time. Outsiders I hate seeing me sick though.

MissTapestry · 30/12/2011 13:30

Urgh, I hate being sick in the toilet, something about the angle my head is at sends the vom up my nose! It's sick bowls or the sink for me I'm afraid...

SarahStratton · 30/12/2011 13:33

I never knew people vommed in places other than the loo. Hmm

My loo is clean. Sparkly, bleached clean. And it's definitely where vom should go, unhindered by baths, sinks, or bowls.

Mingers.

MissMogwi · 30/12/2011 13:59

This is putting me off my Thorntons.

Almost.

scuzy · 30/12/2011 14:23

am i the only one that thinks cleaning down the bath is easier than a loo? you have your shower head etc whereas in the loo you have the seat, the lid, those crevices etc. more work to make sure its germ free again.

i would be annoyed too though if he did it on purpose but i would clean it up if it was my dh. he is ill and obviously unwell andif like my dh would prob be sick at the site of sick and it wouldnt be done right anyway. that does NOT make me a mug.

whackamole · 30/12/2011 14:46

YANBU. I have thrown up in the bath before, but in my defense it was coming out of both ends quite unexpectedly so I didn't really have an option!

He is being a precious little princess, so long as there isn't a giant turd in the bowl then why it is it 'disgusting' to throw up there?

And scuzy I don't think it is easier cleaning the bath of sick - use some anti-bac wipes for the seat and all around then bleach and scrub and it's done.

AnotherBloominChristmastance · 30/12/2011 15:02

Ewwwww Give him a bucket and tell him to pour it down the loo when he's done and clean the bucket, Also tell him as you cleaned the bath for him you assume he will return the favour when you vomit in the bath.

Olympia in our house the bowl is for when i can't get to toilet (heavely pregnant), or for the DC so i can keep an eye on her, and unfortunately when we all have something and the bathroom is taken.

PopcornMouse · 30/12/2011 15:31

I have to agree with DH, sticking your head in the loo is grim. BUT imho a bowl is the way forward - it can be flushed and washed - certainly not the bath Shock

Lexie1970 · 30/12/2011 15:37

The thought of being sick in the bath turns my stomach..... we use the loo in our house but have to be honest the washing up bowl has been used a couple of times when DS has a tummy bug. It then gets bleached and disinfected thorougly!!!!

I can't understand why some MNers are so against wives / partners cleaning up after ill husbands. On other threads I have noticed these same posters getting uptight if they get food from buffets or dish up for them on other occasions......

FourThousandHoles · 30/12/2011 15:38

Ugh

I have a special bowl, it saw active service during my last pregnancy

But would far rather be sick in the bog than the sink/bath

lolaflores · 30/12/2011 15:38

When I throw, I have no time to make a mental list of preferred receptacles. IF I blow then head for the toilet. I have cleaned my gack up when horribly ill as that is a fundamental rule of life. your puke, wee,poo or feminine hygiene stuff, then up to you to get rid. keeping your puke out of peoples way is also a common courtesy to those around you. I am a big puker and now in my old age find that when I spew, I also wet myself. Not nice for anyone

lolaflores · 30/12/2011 15:38

So twice the work.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/12/2011 15:39

No wonder he thinks chucking up in the loo is disgusting, because YOU DO THE DISGUSTING BIT WHEN HE CHUCKS UP IN THE BATH. If he was 5, he would understand consequences. Bowl and flush is fine.

newmum953 · 30/12/2011 15:45

Wouldn't the chunky bits possibly block the drain? Calling a plumber out is enough to make anyone angry.

Chubfuddler · 30/12/2011 15:46

Clearing up after someone who has been sick somewhere unfortunate by accident , no problem.

Picking chunks of chunder out of the bath plug hole because Dh has chosen to puke there would be a problem.

valiumredhead · 30/12/2011 16:09

YOU cleared it up? Why?

4madboys · 30/12/2011 16:24

why the fuck did you clean it up?!!

and yes puking in the toilet isnt pleasant but the BATH!! we use a bowl in our house and then tip it down the toilet, simple! my dp was ill a few weeks ago and vomited all over the bathroom floor [boak] i handed him a towel, some kitchen roll and a glass or water and left him to it, i am NOT cleaning up his puke for him!

valiumredhead · 30/12/2011 16:26

We use a bowl lined with a plastic carrier bag, then the ends can be tied and plonked straight in the bin outside. Since we have used this method I have managed to avoid catching the last 3 bugs ds has brought home.

4madboys · 30/12/2011 16:29

thats good but you have to know you are going to be sick (or a child is) and be organised, if it just strikes randomly its quick grab a bowl from the kitchen! and then bleach it to within an inch of its life! i shall remember the carrier bag trick tho.

but the BATH... shudders at the thought.

MrsCog · 30/12/2011 16:30

I think the safe conculsion is that a designated sick bowl is the way forward! Not only can it easily be flushed down, but if you are unfortunate enough to have a 'both ends at once' affair like C Diff you can sit on the loo and be sick at the same time.... bitterly remembers having to sit on the loo due to terrible bug but no sick bowl to hand, no one in the house to get one and just having to throw up on the floor :( at least it wasn't a carpeted bathroom!

alistron1 · 30/12/2011 16:32

I wouldn't be too bothered about someone ill being sick in the bath. DP has done it in the bathroom sink in the past. With the water running etc it's not a huge bind to clean it up. Luckily we rarely have tummy bugs, but if DP has been ill I'll clean it up and vice versa. Many years ago I once had a bit too much to drink and was sick all over our bed - he very kindly cleaned it all up AND made me a nice cup of tea afterwards.
